This would be my concern...

Dalton was scheduled to attend a CF camp in Texas(?) about 7-8 years ago. He had to have 3 CLEAN cultures in order to attend. Literally, the day before he was to leave for camp, his 3rd culture came back positive for B.Cepacia. BUT, what if it hadn't 'shown' up on his culture until maybe the next time...what if he didn't give a good sample until next time...

I guess I just don't have a 100% faith in the cultures, espeically if the kids are young.</end quote></div>

GREAT example.....

cultures aren't 100% accurate.

i would never risk that for my child.....

My daughter never had the chance to go to camp, and to tell you the truth if she had I doubt I would have sent her. Mainly, however, because I'm a paranoid freak and can't imagine any of my kids away at a camp, cf or not.lol. I would definetly consider it with your son though. It's true that CF doesnt 'define' a person, but as much as we may not like to admit it, it is a huge part of who they are. So it might be good for him to be with other kids that are going through the same stuff..Or so he doesn't feel left out or embarresed when he has to go off and do treatments or something. Just my two cents <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Cory has never attended CF camp but has attended 4-H style camp since he was 8 years old. He later became a counsler and eventually a staff member. As his health declined, he became a program director(allowed him to work in the air conditioner when he couldn't handle it). With the camp, they had a full time nurse who made sure he had all of his meds and did the CPT. Camp has always been the best memories for Cory and he refers to it the one and only place he could feel "normal". The friendships he made have been life long and to this day are still some of his closest friends. It came him the opportunity to tell about his CF in a very unjedgemental enviroment.
The nurse was educated, the staff was educated so we were comfortable he was being take care of. To be able to experience the simple activities just like all of his peers was something he would never trade. He use to start packing in January for camp in June.
Skip the pulmonary camp and give him the experience that camp can provide. Just spend some time training..
