Tobi With Vest

Hayley, 11yrs, is on Tobi every other month. She does Tobi in nebulizer while doing her vest. My friend Jamey, 28yrs w/ CF, said his doctor told him to neb Tobi after Vest treatment. Vest opens things up and don't want to cough Tobi out. It does make sense. Wondering what you guys do.

Yeah...Would want to do the albuterol to open her up either with her vest or right before (the vest moves a ton of air in the lungs, can dry her out), THEN do the special meds like pulmo and tobi. Don't want to cough the stuff right out after it goes in. That's what my doc told me and makes general sense. Also you could do the albuterol to open her up, then do the vest with just some saline/hypertonic/sterile water etc, just so her lungs stay moist with all that air movin through them.

Hi,

I was told to do Albuteral first, Pulmozyme, then Tobi. I was told not to do the TObi while doing the vest because we don't take deep breaths while on the vest, so the treatment can't go all the way in. We also cough while on the vest, which defeats the purpose of TObi.

I hate the months I am on my TObi because, I am more short of breath, and I cough a lot more, AND it takes all my time up. To help make things easier, I have a nebulizer in my car, so after my vest and morning treatments, I can head out the door, and just do my tobi while I am driving somewhere.. to school or work.

Question...I will probably become more time reduced in the very near future, and would love to be able to do my aresols in my car on my way to work or whatever, where would I go to look for a pari neb type nebulizer machine to do my nebs on the go? And what do you guys recommend?

Sean, I use the Pari Pro Neb..(which breaks down the Tobi to the same size microns as the DeVillbliss which is the nebulizer that is approved for Tobi.) My family went to Radio Shack, which is an electroincs store and they bought me and AC adaptor, It is great!!!!!!!! It plugs into my Cig lighter and has a three prong "real plug" outlett that I plug my nebulizer into.

I know that I would have a hard time being compliant with my Tobi if I didn't have it, since most days I have to be at school real early and usually from school I go to work till 11 pm or so...and I have an hour car ride home...so I can be well ahead of the game doing the treatments in my car...

I don't love doing it in the middle of the day because I feel like a weirdo sucking on a Neb where everyone can see me, but the benefit is still awesome

I was always told to take my inhalers, do physio so that my airways are clear to cough everything up, and then do my inhaled treatments so that I get deep down inside.

The Pari Trek comes with both a rechargeable battery and a cig lighter adapter. It's also the size and weight of a Stephen King paperback and will run on foreign electrical currencies. Pretty handy machine when you travel.

Do the vest first and then Tobi, my Respitory Therapist told me that when you do vest and neb at the same time, then your not getting all of the medicine into your lungs using the vest.
