Traveling with VEST

I am thinking about taking a flight to see my mom soon & I want to know about how you normally travel with the VEST.

We do not have the one that is on wheels. I am concerned about putting it with my luggage because it has cost me so much & don't want it to be lost.

Can I carry it on board? Should I get some insurance on it to before I take it?

I put all my stuff in one rolling bag, and carry it on. I bought my own rolling bag, because i didn't like the one the vest came with. If it's medical equiptment, they have to let you carry it on, and normal liquid and # of bag restrictions don't apply. I don't know about insurance, but i feel pretty safe bringing it on with me.
I would never check anything that i really needed. There's way too many stories about stuff being lost/banged up.

I also have a doctors note explaining what it is.

Ditto.
we got a letter from her doctor for The Vest and all her medication.
we got a suitcase on wheels with a long handle into which the Vest and all the hoses and wires fit. we even got the nebuizer in the space behind the handle at the top. I covered it with bubble wrap so there wasn't any wiggle room.
we carried it right to the gate and asked that they check it there.
when we got off the plane it was waiting for us right at the gate. no problem.
they LOST ALL OUR OTHER LUGGAGE. but I had the vest and all her other meds, which I always carry with me in an insulated bag.

make sure you have all your perscription meds in their original containers. my pharmacist gave me smaller vials with original labels for just this purpose.
also, I had letters from her doctor explaining the need for her Vest and Nebulizer and ++ medication. but to be honest? they never even looked at the letters.
they checked out the bag and the vest for about 20 minutes though. I think they thought it might be a bomb.

good luck and have a great vacation

We haven't done air travel with the vest, but figure when we do, we'll get a rolling carry-on size -- think Amy/Sakasuka had an example of what she travels with. The duffle bag that came with the VEST hardly lasted on day trip -- the inner pockets for the cord/vest/tubes just shredded.

A friend of mine went to an education day talk from someone from an airline regarding traveling with the vest -- putting everything in a rolling suitcase "carryon" size based on the airlines standards. Irony was that when she went to fly on that airline,-- they gave her a TERRIBLE time.

They did have some issues once with the nebulizer (breathing machine they called it). Really looked it over, called us aside, had DH plug it in. But eventually they let us thru.
