hi everyone!
just a quick question. i'm thinking christian will have to get a tune up pretty soon, and i've heard from somewhere that some people get this done at home. i was wondering, has anyone done this? how do you go about doing it?
thanks!

Our doctor makes us start in-patient. They get us settled, schedule a picc line insertion, and do several days of observation and bloodwork to make sure we are on the right dosing and all is going well. Then after about 4 days they contact the home health care company, set everything up and have them come out to our hospital room and train us on the equipment.

When we are discharged, a home health nurse comes to our house and makes sure we know what we are doing. And they also deliver the meds about 5-7 days worth at a time. They come once a week to clean and change the dressings and make sure all is going well. We also do weekly bloodwork to make sure that the med levels are fine.

Every doctor does it differently, but I would definitely talk to yours about the possiblity. 5 days in-patient sure beats 2 weeks in! Its good for EVERYONE when they can sleep in their own beds and you can control the meds.

indeed all ^ is correct im sure you arnt to this point yet but im 22 and ive done my share.. i always make them put a extention on my picc so i can attach it myself. and when im done. i unplug clean the ends roll it up secure with coband and go bout my bizness wether its riding my motorcycle or playing pool or whatnot...

PS if your on a motorcycle and have it wrapped with coband and wearign a short sleave shirt secure with rubber bands cause the wind will loosen the coband and unwrap it <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Sophia is at home now on her second tune-up. We have the same schedule as Heather mentioned. We were in 4.5 days this past time before the bloodwork/dosage was worked out. One thing I figured out thought when the next time comes around and I think we are headed for a round of IV's, I am going to bring my child in for a sputum test days before the hospital stay. They kept us at least two days more to see if her culture would grow anything but staph. It drove me crazy, she has only grown staph nothing else. I can't imagine being the hospital for two weeks. I had to do when my kids were infants, but when they are bigger it is different. The contant need to entertain them in small room is challenging. When I am pretty tired due to the routine at night, I just think about the fact that we could still be in the hospital and I am so thankful to be in our own house.
