Well, we are in the hospital and Brian feels a little better....His appetite is improved too. He was tested for myobacterium because of the changes on xray, weight loss and overall decrease in energy. The culture was negative. If he doesn't respond to the Tobra...they may do a bronch for a better sample. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. We are contemplating doing home iv for week 2 but it will be our first time and I'm a little nervous.

Cathy, great news that things are looking up. Just want to toss in my opinion that home IVs are a godsend - they give you the abx without the stress and disturbed sleep (and rotton food!) of the hospital. I'm sure it's nerve wracking to do them for the first time as a mom, but I do think you'll find they're pretty manageable. More annoying than anything b/c you do have to keep kind of an awkward schedule. But the home IV pumps/eclipse balls they have now are simple to use - just plug in and go - and as long as you can keep the space where you administer the drugs nice and clean you should be good to go! Let us know what you decide and how your son is doing. Here's hoping for a continued speedy recovery!

Well--we are home and his first dose of abx went fine.. He is an awesome kid, knows I'm nervous and reminds me if I forget something. The discharge was good...however, the MRSA is no longer responding to Bactrim...Should I be worried?

Thanks again for the support.
