this will be my 2nd tune up and i am sort of comfortable with it
knowing the hospital and the routine and everything how does
everyone else feel bout tune ups?

Oh I used to hate them as a little kid because they always either came near summer or when I was supposed to start school. I have been in the hospital a lot over the years when I was younger I went in every year about 3 times a year for tune ups. But now i try and do all my iv's at home so that I don't catch any extra stuff while i am in the hospital.

what do u mean you try to do your IV tune ups at home so you don't
"catch any extra stuff at the hospital" ? and believe it
or not but i prefer to go to the hospital and stay there for 10-14
days for my IV tune ups =]
alyssa, hospitals are germy. if we catch MRSA or B. Cepacia which are everywhere but more prevelant in hospitals it can add unnecessary complication to our Cf.

You're graduating high school at age 14? ...smarty pants - were you home schooled to be able to skip that many years? ...or is this graduation from junior high or something?

I just finished three weeks of IVs. Two weeks in the hospital which
was horrible and another week at home. Luckily I only have tune ups
every few years. This was the longest I've had IVs and the sickest
I've been in a while.

Wow, I read this topic on a whim and didn't see how anyone was being mean. i think sometimes when people write it sounds mean but it really isn't. Read over the reply that Loulou wrote in a different light and she was just informing you. I don't think anyone would purposely be mean to a 14 year old when they are so much older.

On a lighter note, I am impressed that you like the hospital. I have always hated it and avoid it at all costs. You are much better off in your situation. It will only help you as you get older that you like the hospital. I wish I was like that

GIDDY UP! my first look in here at and i must say i can see there a
heap of passion in some people hey! i think passion is a link in
the liberation chain. anyway, i have been having "tune
ups"for the last ten years now and have gone from discharging
myself on the first day or going for a couple of quiet drinks at
the pub over the road from the hospital then coming back to the
ward at 7 the following morning, to really enjoying the two week
relax in hospital where i catch up with all the staff , get the
goss so to speak, get a bit of intense physio and iv's and
catch up on all the new dvd's..i actually have a great laugh in
hospital now & have met some fascinating people now i take time
to talk with them! when i get home i'm bouncing- play with the boys
& wrestle heaps (it sux the most when my boys miss out due to
shitty cf health, but as Homer Simpson would say,
"wotchagunnado?") i must add i am very wary of cross
infection & getting to close to anyone, maybe i could be
considered obsessive compulsive with hand washing and sterilizing
every bit of my bed ,little bedside locker t.v remotes phone (c wot
i mean!) etc but it has served me well thus far. for me the
benefits of tune ups out weighs the risks.i would rather have a
dozen plum sized haemorrhoids eternal than cf, however it certainly
adds alot of intriguing colour to my life i would not have had
otherwise!!! tchau all and i will leave a thought behind here.

thankyou sue35 this will be my 2nd tune up in my life i don't know
maybe its the hospital that makes me look forward to it because of
the friendly young staff and concidering its a childrens hospital
with a mini golf course outside but i just thought that like if i
am going to be having these tune ups once every summer i might as
well make the best of it . and yes i may have taken what lou lou
said a bit harsh but i felt insulted by what she said about the age
thing. and if i sounded rude to lou lou i apologize But
going to the hospital and seeing people with cancer and coming in
in emergency helicopters from serious or fatal injuries from car
accidents makes me realized how blessed i am and how lucky i am .

my daughter recently had a tune up and she caught a virus her last day in the hospital and it made her worse than when she first went in. she was up at emergency the same night she got out with a temp of 39c and the coughing made her feel as though she wanted to rip her lungs out. She was miserable as and she is only now starting to come good. The next time she needs a tuneup, we are going to trial doing it at home.

What is a tune up? I've gone 2 clinics every month. Is that the same thing? And I also prefer getting better in the hospital than at home cuz that way I don't end up having 2 go back in like a month 2 get another IV.

A tuneup is where you go into hospital for about 10 to 14 days (or more depending on health) and you have IV antibiotics and extra physio. A home tuneup is where you have Iv's at home and get to lounge around in your own bed. My daughter is always soooooo glad to get out of hospital and back to her own things

Oh I forgot to say she has a port a cath in, so she doesnt feel bad as pain anymore as she did with the needle in her arm.

Oh ok I don't usually get tune ups. I just get check ups. The dr. just listens 2 my lungs and I get a looong lecture about my weight. I also have a port and it rocks.
