Because my son was in the hospital for so long when he was born and then again due to a intestinal blockage soon after he was home, my son was behind in crawling, walking, talking. We were enrolled in a free program called Early Steps. I was just talking to his Early Steps teacher yesterday about this. My son is really picky about textures, food and only eats certain things. She was telling me to get this sour candy spray that you can find at the dollar store. She said it sounds horrible to do to a kid but to spray it in their mouth. She said it will make their mouth pucker up and it uses those muscles they use to eat. She said it sounds crazy but it helps. She said to just put the food on a plate and set it down, let him just touch, feel and do what he wants with it. I did that yesterday and he actually ate mac & cheese after picking it up, feeling and exploring it for a moment! She said give him a choice, I put sliced hot dog weenies and mac & cheese on the plate...he chose the mac & cheese lol She said even if he doesn't eat the food him touching and playing with it, feeling the new textures is good. Anyways, thats just a couple things she gave me to do and they seem to be helping...I could not beleive my picky child ate mac & cheese!!
