Have you seen a feeding therapist? Alyssa saw one through the CFcenter a few yrs ago when she wouldn't eat. The therapist had lots of good ideas and seemed to know the cause of many behaviors. (For example: drinking only water or lemonade was a sign of reflux issues)

I've been having this problem right now too! And I'm 19! It's so strange, I was in walmart yesterday and walked by a frozen food freezer and just thinking about it made me gag, and it's food I like but has a texture to it (don't remember specifically what it was) I've never thrown up from it, but unless I'm just really in the mood for something, I don't eat much of it.
Another strange thing is this morning and last night, I managed to gag myself when I was brushing my teeth. It's getting crazy! If someone figures out what the deal is with this, let me know. I'm loosing weight because I have no appitite, I don't feel like doing anything and don't have much energy because I'm not eating

Thanks guys for all your responses.

Robert posted his similar issue on the adult forum and it brought up the possibility of a bug being present. He is doing better (no puking) so I wonder if he just had something go through his system.

A couple of you mentioned a feeding therapist...which sounds very interesting!!! I think we could benefit from one. The problem is living on the big island in hawaii, there is no way, I would find that kind of specialty. Would anyone be willing to give me a few pointers as to some stuff I can do on my own???

blessings,
missa

Given that there may be no feeding specialists available, I'd look into talking to a speech & language pathologist. They are trained in this sort of thing as well as in addressing speech (the same muscles are involved in speech as are in feeding.) I would assume you'd be able to find one out there... associated with the school systems, as any child with an IEP that needs speech therapy would have one, as well as working with hospitals, etc (people who have had strokes, etc often need them.) Look into it from that perspective. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Missa I just saw this post, but wanted to add. Philip is the same way. He never vomits anymore, but he still eats baby food. He is 14 months. We keep trying to make his food thicker and if we don't do it in tiny bites and tell him to chew...he gags. He can take toast, cookies, etc with no problem. It's the thick veggies or meats that I make that he does this with. I hate it because he should really not be on baby food anymore. The comment above with the tooth brushing made me think about when I was pregnant. With morning sickness, tooth brushing would gag me. I guess nausea is already there?? Good luck to you <3

Because my son was in the hospital for so long when he was born and then again due to a intestinal blockage soon after he was home, my son was behind in crawling, walking, talking. We were enrolled in a free program called Early Steps. I was just talking to his Early Steps teacher yesterday about this. My son is really picky about textures, food and only eats certain things. She was telling me to get this sour candy spray that you can find at the dollar store. She said it sounds horrible to do to a kid but to spray it in their mouth. She said it will make their mouth pucker up and it uses those muscles they use to eat. She said it sounds crazy but it helps. She said to just put the food on a plate and set it down, let him just touch, feel and do what he wants with it. I did that yesterday and he actually ate mac & cheese after picking it up, feeling and exploring it for a moment! She said give him a choice, I put sliced hot dog weenies and mac & cheese on the plate...he chose the mac & cheese lol She said even if he doesn't eat the food him touching and playing with it, feeling the new textures is good. Anyways, thats just a couple things she gave me to do and they seem to be helping...I could not beleive my picky child ate mac & cheese!!
