very confused w/ the vest

I think you can get a vest at about age 2 years old - they do have to be a certain size for the vest to fit.

I cannot hold up to the physical demands of manual CPT either.

My kids were very late diagnosis (teenagers) and we have just recently split households (daughter is living by herself - son still at home with us) and we have recently become a two vest family! I have some info on my blog page about why we chose Hill-Rom for our daughter (first vest purchase) We looked at the Respirtech and thought it might be a better machine but worried about the lack of feedback from others -- it seemed that everyone had only good things to say about Hill-Rom (except for the hoses popping off) and nobody had really heard much about Respirtech so we went with HIll-Rom. Fast forward a couple of years and now my son needs a vest - I decided to give Respirtech a try. It just got delivered and I haven't opened it up yet, but I am extremely excited that this time we got approval for the vest within a couple of days - we did not have to fight the insurance company with an appeal process which took months for my daughter & Hill-Rom. Not that it is a big deal because you get to use the machine the whole time, but still it was a huge relief to know they will be paying for it right away.

Hill Rom now makes an extra small sized vest. I also know of a couple people locally who got vests for their children after they turned one. I think it used to be a size issue -- Hill Rom only had the size small vest. Repirtech had a smaller, more fitted vest.

All I got was a Padded DUFFLE bag with the hill-rom vest and the pockets where I place the tubes has already torn and we've only travelled/taken it with us half a dozen times in the past 8 months.

we got 'The Vest' about 6 years ago.
it's huge.
we got a suitcase into which it fits perfectly width wise.
there is enough room at the top for the nebulizer and the hoses and wires fit on top.
it's on wheels and makes travel alot easier.
the new ones are so small and light.

what is the life expectancy of 'The Vest'? does it loose effectiveness over time?

Our daughter got her vest when she was 14 months old. Ours also came from Hill-Rom. When the therapist came to the house to teach us on it she said Ashley was her smallest and youngest patient and wondered how she would do. She did excellent and has ever since! She is now just a little over 2. It is so much nicer than doing the CPT by hand, and it seems to be even more effective. I would talk to your clinic and find out about them getting one for your son. They are wonderful!
