No, they probably don't "loose effectiveness over time" but the package sure gets smaller ! The problem is with getting a new one, the insurance companies don't think they should spend another $16,000.00 for you to have a smaller one. If you have a different insurance company now than you did when you got the vest you might stand a better chance at getting a new one. Also call Hill-Rom and ask them about upgrading to a new one. I've heard other people say you can do that, but the down side is it still ends up costing you like $6,000. (they take your old one back)

Yes, I am more impressed with the Respirtech machine, vest, tubes and bag. The shape of the machine is smaller & more compact, the vest seems to have more to it, the tubes are wonderful -- lock into place, attaching is easy and they don't seem as "cheap looking/feeling" as the Hill-Rom tubes. The carrying case is far better. It has better/thicker more supportive padding. The unit sits down in the center and is supported and fits very snuggly against the padding.

Thanks for the feedback. When I've asked my clinic they say my son is too small and they think it will scare him. But i know my son, and don't think anything can scare him. He takes his treatments well either holding or wearing the mask himself and sits still for 30 minutes of CPT. Since my post I've emailed both Respirtech and Hill-Rom for more info. Both have told me they have patients as young as 1, Respirtech even gave me a chest size (16. inches), which my son is 19 in. I think I will be bringing the topic up again at our next clinic visit. My son already seems to need at least 2 treatments a day, when we only do one I notice coughing in the mornings when he wakes up. I really think the vest would be good for him. I don't know why my clinic is not for it and seems to want to delay. They had mentioned age 4 or 5 to get the vest and he's only 2 now.

Be persistant with your clinic about getting your soon fitted for a vest. I'm sure he is big enough. Our daughter has always been very tiny (off the chart since about 11 months old, so I'm sure that when she was 14 months she was smaller than what your son is now. Our clinic is very pro-active, which we like, and they had originally talked about her possibly getting her vest when she was about 18 months old. Then when she was only 13 months our doctor said, "Let's go ahead and get her fitted". The vest fit pretty nicely (we did fold part of it in for awhile, but no longer need to). She was actually so small that we would have to sit and hold her up or she would fall over. But now she can stand in it and move around a little (the tubes are not very long). She was never scared and it has never bothered her. She is very cooperative with it all. She wears it for 20 minutes twice a day. I can't believe you have to do the CPT for 30 minutes!! You hand must be wanting to fall off by the end! Good luck with your next clinic visit! They really should listen to your request!

Damien is 22 months and he got his Incourage vest by Respirtech at 20 months. We love it. It fits great, Damien never seems uncomfortable. I got apicture of Damien in his vest He has a perturbed look upon his face but that is because I got up from his side not because he was irritated by the vest. There are 10 set of three minute intervals and the pulse and frequency vary and damiens machine was preset for him at the manufactor per his prescription I was told by Douglas Springer business development specialist for Respirtech. He came to my home about a week after my vest arrived and gave me a run down on the machine and answered all my questions I was suprised to hear he had a prescription for his settings and they preset it for him. Interesting. Anyway here is a picture of Damien and his big brother.
