So far we have had a good experience with Hill Rom. We have had it for alomst a month and there is no way I'm giving it back! After 4 years of manual CPT I am typing while Ian is doing his vest! The trainer was great when she came out. Hill Rom is working on insurance payment because it is EXPENSIVE!!!!

Horray! Hill Romm called me last night & Reilly's vest is being shipped TODAY! I will have it tomorrow. The trainer will call me on Monday or Tuesday to set up the training. That was so easy. Hopefully everything else will fall into place.

I wonder if my dd would be able to get a vest. I have no clue how to do the CPT's, the dr told me she needs them but that is as far as it got.

What does the vest cost these days? I am sure my insurance would cover it but was curious how much they cost? I had heard $10,000 a few years ago & didn't know if this was still accurate.

debs2girls-I always felt insecure about doing CPT correctly. We didn't start until Cale was 18 months (that's when he was diagnosed) and he just never adapted well, and neither did I. We just make sure we are active when we play and I clap his back throughout the day while we play. But I can't believe they tell you to do it, and then don't show you how. Is there a therapist at your clinic that you could request? Maybe you could ask your Dr about the vest. I had to push a little, but I am so excited to be able to try the vest soon, and get into a regular routine with his therapy. Especially this time of year!

Shelly, thank you for posting a reply. I am not sure what they offer at the clinic since we have only just started going there. I also clap Cheyenne on the back thoughout the day. She is getting pretty congested sounding right now too. She hardly ever coughs anything out. She is still on an antibiotic for a lymph node problem.
I think I will ask about the vest.
Thank you,
Debbie

Congrats on getting the vest Shelly! So far, I have been happy with Hill-Rom. I have been putting Reilly's vest on her the past couple of days (without the tubes) to kind-of get her used to it. Last night she wore it for about 15 minutes without complaint. Tonight I will probably try it with the tubes hooked into the vest, but not the generator.
Debbie - Reilly never tolerated the CPT, either. Like you, I tried to clap her on the back throughout the day, but I am sure it is not as good as the "real deal." Reilly also never really coughs anything out, either. So, hopefully with this new vest, we will get some good results. Good luck. I am sure you are overwhelmed with all the new treatments and meds, but after a while you get a little better adjusted to it. Feel free to email me if you have any questions, or just want to talk!

Cindy, thank you....I did email you. We are not doing anything "extra" as of yet. I am just waiting to see what they are going to addor do. We go back to the cf doc on the 19th, hopefully we will get something done then.
I am going to ask about the vest then, along with the elastase test they still havent done and also about the enzymes.
I hope in time all of this stuff will get a little easier to cope with.

Cindy, thanks for the post. It's nice to know what we can expect in the days to come. By the way, who delivered the vest? My husband actually talked to Hill Rom when they called to confirm...enough said? I just didn't get any details and don't know who will deliver.

My vest came by Fed Ex. They shipped it on Thursday, and it was supposed to arrive Friday. But, Hill-Rom failed to label it next day air. They said it "always" arrives next day, but mine didn't come until Saturday. No biggie, because I don't know how to use it anyway until I receive the training. I did watch the DVD that came it with last night, and it is pretty informative. They even have a short message to children, and Reilly really enjoyed it.

Our arrived by fed ex. It was around the thanksgiving weekend so it took a little longer. Ian also never expectorates, but he does cough more with the vest which is good. Despite being a very active guy he tolerated CPT well. We used pediatric resuctation masks with Fisher Price Duplo like pieces on the end for handles. It worked well, just time comsuming and sometimes I know our energy level was not enough to be really effective. My husband would do it in the morning and I would do it in the afternoon. The vest is so great time wise. We are still waiting to hear how much, if any our insurance will pay. I also need to call for the pad that goes around a G tube as Ian will be getting one placed in January.

Ours came yesterday, via FedEx. I saw the truck pull up, thankfully. I was shocked when he set it on the doorstep and left it outside. He didn't knock, I didn't have to sign for it. It really shocked me, that this EXPENSIVE piece of equipment was just sitting there. Had I not seen him, it would have sat in the snow for a couple of hours until my daughter came home from school.

But we're soooo glad it is here and we're ready for them to contact us about training!

That might be a fed ex issue! I defiently had to sign for ours! That's like delivering the cost equivalent to a new car and just leaving it on the front lawn with the keys in it! Of course the vest is harder to drive

I did not have to sign for ours. Matter of fact, I called Hill-Rom the day it was to be shipped to request it be delivered to my work, and they actually argued with me that it would be "fine" sitting on my front porch until I got home that evening. Finally, I just gave up and said whatever. They knew it did not have to be signed for, because they told me it wouldn't need to be. The other thing that shocked me, was it wasn't even in a "neutral" box. The box clearly shows what it is. This is not the time of year to have a $16,000 piece of medical equipment sitting on my porch!
