Vesting All Night

I think if you call the vest company they provide you with the exact electrical consumption/specifications (whatever it's called) of the compressor. I do think it was more than something like a tv- it's been brought up here before- but not overly significant if someone only used it an hour or two a day. However, if someone were using it 10hrs a day, I think that might get pretty significant. I'm curious!

I agree that kids often do conk out while vesting, but worry you wouldn't get the same 'quality' of sleep while it runs all night, since your movement is so restricted (not to mention noise level and the constant movement.) But who knows? If constant coughing, etc is keeping someone up and the vest provides relief, then there might well be better sleep quality.

No, we didn't take a med. deduction. It wasn't worth it for us vs. the standard one, since you have to exceed 7.5% of your income on medical expenses before you can deduct anything and we didn't (thank God) spend that much on medical stuff alone to make it worth it vs. the standard.

After Piper wakes up in the morning, the first thing we do is nebs and coughing, I think the benefits of the overnighting would probably be lost if we waited two hours or whatever, then nebbed. Once I see an electric bill from a full month, I'll let you all know..I may be freaking out, LOL.

I don't see (in her attitude, etc) where her sleep quality is being affected, but there's really no way for me to know one way or the other. After hearing how Jessica's Dr reacted, I shot an email off to our Coordinator, the protocol for the overnight vesting came from the North American CF Conference this past year (2009), which made me feel better about it.

When my daughter is sick, and can't sleep, she likes to do her vest for a couple of hours straight while she is falling asleep. It really helps her relax and she says it feels better. I don't know if it's benifical for getting mucus out but it does bring her comfort on long sick nights.

WOW! I just dont see how they can sleep all night but now that I think of it our son sleeps during his vest in the mornings before school. He is now doing vigorous levels. He is on an 18hz for 20 minutes. What level does she sleep in?

Doing the vest machine for twice a day @15 minutes is more than enough for me. I can't imagine that the constant clobbering and pulsating effect that the vest machine has on your lungs would be beneficial in any way, if performed continuously for so long.
