Anyone been on a long-term (few months) treatment of Vfend? It is summer of course and I will be on it for the whole season.

My skin has been extremely sensitive and I have been trying to cover up every inch but in the summer it gets hot with long sleeves! I wore 50 spf and my skin was still RED.

Any suggestions?

I've been successful in warding off most sunburn by reapplying sunscreen frequently, as in every 15-30 mins. It's annoying, but last summer I kept burning/peeling/scabbing which really hurt. Eventually I built up enough of a base tan that I could get back and forth to work (my only real sun exposure) and even go to the beach for short spurts, but it was not a pleasant way of getting to that point. This year, I've been re-applying sunscreen as soon as I start feeling like I'm burning even if I had just lathered up with SPF 55 10 mins before. I haven't had any major burns this year (knock on wood). I would recommend making sure that you have a non-comedogenic lotion for normal use (given the amount I have had to use I don't want to clog my pores) and a good waterproof spray so you can get your own back frequently without having to ask others all the time.

I, too, worry about the sun and the Vfend. My daughter, Kayla, has been on it since October. We have a pool, so she spends a lot of time outside. I have been making sure she coats herself good, several times a day, with sunscreen. At 13, she wants a tan like her friends of course. But I just keep explaining the sunburn risk. So far, so good.

I didn't do vfend for more than a week (I reacted so badly I was totally bedbound while on it), but I was on itraconazole for almost two years. I was really careful with the sunscreen, and I also always tried to wear something (like a scarf or a hat) on my head when I was outside. I've never sunburned easily or had trouble burning my scalp where my hair parts, but on itraconazole I burned SO easily!!!!

Thanks peoples. We ordered a 'swim shirt' online that is long sleeve so hopefully i can use that to cover my arms when I am outside riding my bike. I am wearing a big brimmed hat too.

This is interesting, I was on a course of vfend for 4 weeks. No other oral drug made me feel so good so fast! I must have had a lot of aspergillus and clearing it up made a big diff.

Regarding skin, I found that my skin just went really TAN! I got no burn. Having said that I live qute far north so even though it was summer we only got a bit of sunshine and people were asking me had I been away/ was I wearing fake tan/ dido I do sun beds?!

I loved it! Have to say the risks didn't quite register with me. The following year I signed up for an aspergillus study where I had to take itraconazole for 4 weeks. Got no skin reaction but also didn't see such dramatic effects in how my breathing felt. Could be because much of the aspergillus had been eradicated from the vfend treatment the previous year.
