I asked for a Vitamin D test recently and was shocked that it was shockingly low. I do have problems with my parathyroid and osteopenia -- and I do take a good multivitamin which was obviously not enough. What I didn't know is that Vitamin D helps control inflammation. I. too, had to go on Vitamin D therapy and my level doubled quickly (still low) but I noticed an odd improvement. When I was having my teeth cleaned (every 3 months), there was practically no bleeding for the first time. The hygienist noticed of course -- and I realized that the only thing different was the addition of Vitamin D.
First a couple of 50.000 IU and now I take a couple of thousand D3 with each meal. My doctor was telling me that she saw some recent study that was suggesting up to 10,000 IU a day -- but the jury is certainly not in yet.
It was in the news this year, that women that have breast cancer are frequently deficient in Vitamin D. So it seems like normal Vitamin D levels are important. And after I saw my gum health improve, I wanted to increase my levels because I hoping that as an anti-inflammatory, it may be helpful for my lung issues as well.
