Vitamin Question-HELP!

Is she on any CF vitamins? Sometimes the clinic would get adeks drops from the vendor and because DS was the only baby there at the time, they'd give us extras. Otherwise our pharmacy was able to get the best price. DS currently takes two source cf chewables along with supplemental A & E which we just get at target.

Insurance doesn't cover vitamins, but I wonder if she's not on cf vitamins, if she could try vitamax. I think those are the least expensive of the CF vitamins.

Thanks for the suggestions. Kate does get her enzymes from the CF pharmacy, but it was through the Wee Care program. So I guess I should have said I've never used them for anything that I've had to pay and use insurance (yet!) I've already got a script for our next batch of enzymes/vitamins since she is no longer free and I'm not happy to hear they are not cheap! She is on 2mL Vitamax a day, so I was surprised to hear her vitamin D was so low. My husband had to take our other daughter to her well baby check up today and her asked our reg. ped. about the situation. She thought 150 was a lot of $ for vitamins too, and suggested the gummy vitamin D you can get at Target.

Drisdol is a liquid vitamin D. It is 1600IU / mL and yes it is expensive, fortunately our INS paid for it when we used it.

FYI, sourceCF has 500IU/dose, Flintstones are 400IU so this is a high-concentration and highly obtainable D (as it is a liquid).

There is a cheaper prescription option for liquid D, Calcitriol, but I don't know off the top of my head how much less....

I also had my Vitamin D level tested and was shocked to find it was 11! Extremely low. I had to take two 50,000 units in one month. Maybe even for a second month. Since then I take an OTC brand every day. The last test showed levels have doubled to 23, still low but acceptable. Now that I have taken for a much longer period of time, it will be interesting to see if it has gone up any.

I have found a really good brand. It is also very inexpensive. D3 is the best form to take. I read on-line that you can open the capsule and put it in juice. Check with your doctor.

You can ask how many units your doctor wants your daughter to take per day.

The brand is NSI, manufactured by Vitacost.com -- where I buy most of my Vitamins. They also carry just about every brand too. NSI has done well in independent testing bu Consumer Labs (you can google).

You can choose different dosages. I take the 1000 IU, but I see they also have 2000 IU.
