We are in for a tune up

Marty is in the hospital for a tune up. His lung function has been down and his cultures were icky. How have you guys killed the time and what procedures have they done? They put an IV in for now but they mentioned putting in a PICC line. Is this typical? He has been hospitalized many times before but this is the first time he is on long term IVs. I hope all of you are doing well. I always have you all in my prayers

PICC lines are common for long term ivs, a lot of the iv antibiotics can be really hard on the smaller veins. Before I got my medport I had probably around a dozen PICCs over the years and they were great. My veins in my arms couldn't handle normal ivs anymore and only lasted about a day. Hope he's feeling better soon!

DS got a picc line when he had an obstruction. They needed it for his TPN because he couldn't eat and the veins can't handle that stuff, as well as for IV ABX. His initial iv that he got at the local ER before we headed down to the city became "angry" after a couple days, so they had to switch it out.

DS was able to play video games -- they brought in a Wii, we watched dvds, read books, drew pictures & colored, did some crafts. He also played games on my laptop from the cartoon network website.

So sorry you are in. Jordan and I used to play games, read, color or draw, watch movies. Hope Marty is feeling better soon, and you can go home.

I'll keep you in my prayers.

My son is 6 and is about to have his 6th PICC line for severe sinus symptoms and an upcoming 7th sinus surgery He gets the PICC put in and we go home the same day and do all his care and IVs at home. They can be intimidating at first but get easier....Feel better!

My 4 month old is in the hospital right now too. He got here on Monday, and went down for a PICC line on Tuesday morning. Even though he is doing 95% better now, we still have to stay here through the whole 2 week course of antibiotics. Thats a bummer. This is the 3rd time he got a PICC, so from our experiences it is a routine thing for us. Wishing you all well, a quick hospital stay and back to "normal" life very soon. God Bless!!
