We still give dd a "bottle" (it's a nuk sippy cup) with whole milk and heavy whipping cream added to it before her nap and bedtime at night.... I'm just not willing to give up those calories. </end quote></div>

We do the same - one in the morning and one at night. Maggie is 14 months. And we add carnation instant breakfast to it for an additional 130 calories. She never has juice (advised by nutritionist not to) - only drinks water and milk.

Update:

Brought back the lunch time bottle, which sometimes she drinks and sometimes she prefers the sippy (shocking, right?) So we're working with it, but she's been doing great with table food and she loves that mega-pudding recipe I found on this site, so that's been alleviating my calorie worries. The only juice she likes is V8 fusion and V8, if that even counts as juice, but she does the best with that.

Thanks for all the tips guys! You definitely helped me remember that some of those "rules" don't apply to us and that I should go with my gut. We're going to try and cut back again in six months and see how it goes.

I had the same issue, and I just went with what I thought was best for my daughter. She drank from a bottle that had whole milk and scandishake until she was four. I did not ever put her to bed with one and always kept her teeth brushed. We never had any weight issues until I finally did have to take her off of the bottle. Now she is 15 years old and this year got a G tube. I wish I had done that a lot sooner as she has already put on 12 pounds in a 5 months. Wish I would have listened to the doctors on that one!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0">

From my experience with children, we were told to be certain to wean our son off the bottle at the age of one. Of course we listened and had him in a zippy cup but what they don't tell you that a zippy cup is just as bad if not worse in a child, especially if they have a speech disorder and you will not know if they do until they are older. Then most of the time a child has a very difficult time weaning off a zippy cup. Now we are wiser and have a great psych who told us just give the child what they want and what works. If using a bottle at the age of 3 works to get more calories then do it. Our children already has so much to go through don't worry about fads or others commets do and use what Works. Our Whitney is 7 now and she started growing after we started carnation instant breakfast canned milk 3-4 a day and she has even grew taller and out. She gained 16 lbs in less than a year. Good luck and as I seen another replied use your guts and instinct. You know your child best and it is only advice that you getfrom docters and such ultimately go with your natural motherly instincts. Ticmomoff
