Weddings/smoke

Hi, I have cf, a mild case.I have been invited to no more than three(!) weddings this summer, but I have had to decline the invitations, due to the face that there will be a lot of smoking in the restaurant/place where the wedding reception is held. I live in Spain, and here it is common to smoke inside, only few places is there smoking forbidden. This has made me upset, but I would rather miss the weddings, rather than attend and feel sick because of the smoke.

I just wanted to know if anyone has had similar experiences, do you feel like there are social or other things you can't do anymore because of CF?

Looking forward to hearing from my fellow cf'ers.

Good for you for avoiding the smoke!

You are investing in your future.

Like you said, it's very tough to miss fun events, but what's less fun is the smoke.

I talk about a situation where I had to avoid smoke here:

A few years ago we attended a wedding out of town, but opted out of the reception/wedding dance that evening because it was being held at a service club that allowed smoking. Our son was 3 at the time and my mother-in-law was embarrassed and tried to convince us to come because there "really wasn't that much smoke", but we held our ground.

The other time was at a retirement party and I pretty much spent the entire evening moving DS around to avoid the smoke. None of our friends or immediate family smoke, so it never dawn on me that others -- friends of the family and relatives we only see every year or so, don't see anything wrong with smoking in front of children.

Later this month we have an outdoor wedding in Wisconsin to attend, with a dinner and we're hoping that there won't be smoking in the restaurant or during the social hour. Otherwise we'll probably have to leave after the wedding and not stay around to visit.

I've had to miss out on many occasions because of other peoples smoking. Luckily when my one friend got married she made the reception non-smoking. Wouldnt you know, one guy sitting very close to me lights a cigarette anyway ( theres always one isnt there?). I was pi$$ed! I asked my friend who was next to him to tell him to put it out NOW, this is a NON smoking reception.
A lot of restaurants wround here used to allow smoking so i wouldnt go to those, but now they banned it in all restaurants here. YAY <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0"> Good for you for declining.
Your health comes before anyones wedding, party or anything else.
