What age did your child begin the vest?

My daughter didn't start the vest until she was 7 years old, almost 8. She was in the hospital with her first (and so far only) bout with pseudomonas. It sounds late, but it was just over 2 years after she was diagnosed.

My kid just got hers at 2 years 4 months. We could have gotten one right at the stroke of 2 had we pressed for it but we didn't feel a great sense of urgency.

She's completely intractable for manual CPT. It would require a massive physical fight and two adults to do at this point. So we're starting the vest on Friday.

Any pointers for how to make a 2 year old understand that this has to happen and isn't awful? I am dismayed to hear that she may not be able to hear a DVD over the noise of it; since she isn't allowed to watch television I'd hoped to use videos as a bribe.

Sarah, she shouldn't have any problem hearing a dvd, Piper frequently watches movies while she vests. She also got hers at around 2, and did fine with the enticement of tv, lol. We started with shorter cycles, ie, 10 minutes and gradually built up to 15, etc. She overnights in it now, but even as a toddler there were times she would fall asleep with it going, I have numerous pics of that! It's just a matter of getting used to it, I think.

We have used headphones when there's been a problem with sound -- depends on whether we used a portable dvd player, the one in our bedroom was usually the one that was problematic. And I've noticed the newer washable vest doesn't seem as noisy and doesn't seem to make him itch as much or make his ears itch...

Sadie watches cartoons while doing her vest. She'll be 2 on sunday. We just turn the volume up, she doesn't have a problem. She's fallen asleep during the vest, and sometimes even with the nebs and the vest. They just get used to it. She hated chest PT and switching to the vest was the easiest transition we've had to make yet. She took to it right away. She doesn't always want to quit playing to do it, but once we've started it, it's no big deal. We also try to grab her before she gets started doing anything. Good luck!

We also had quite a hard time doing CPT with the rubber hand clapper. Our foster son hated it! I'll admit, I hated it, too! He got his vest before he turned 1. It goes by size and he was 18 lbs. Good luck!

Our son Braden was just over a year old when he got his. At first they told us kids usually get them around three, but as time went on they said he had to be 19" around the chest area. We went to clinic on day and she said let's measure him and he was 19 1/2 so we picked out which vest system we wanted. He does throw fits everynow and again at first but he always falls asleep by time his 20 minutes are up.
