Just wondering what your kiddo's vitamin d levels are. Jasey's were 18 at the beginning of summer and last month 31. Is 31 borderline normal or just inside the normal range?

I have found many normal ranges on this website. Below is a link for Vitamin D:

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003569.htm

"The normal range is 30.0 to 74.0 nanograms per milliliter (ng/mL).

Note: Normal value ranges may vary slightly among different laboratories. Talk to your doctor about the meaning of your specific test results."

You can also ask for the lab report which will say normal ranges specifically for that lab.

My 7 year old is 52 ng/mL and 4 year is is 41 ng/mL (Hawaii definitely helps with Vitamin D exposure!!!
our lab says less than 20 is insufficient
20-29 is suboptimal
30-100 is optimal
and greater than 100 is possible toxicity

Heather, if her levels always come back this low- is Alyssa supplementing? And if so, is it D3- that one seems to be associated with better absorption than regular D.

I have started us all on D3 supplements ...it's been shown to be good for the immune system, always a good thing. There also seems to be a connection between deficiency and inflammation, a constant issue with CF.

Thanks everyone!! I will ask about supplements. 18 before summer and 31 after summer doesn't sound quite good enough to me.
