What do you pack for school lunches?

School is quickly approaching (or actually started in some areas) and I have no ideas on what to pack for my daughter's lunch.

My daughter's class had lunch at 10:30 in the morning (2.5 hours after school started) and she ate nothing at all, so I arranged with her teacher that K could have lunch in the classroom at a time when she was actually hungry. But it means that she can't ever buy lunch; I've got to pack something every day. The good news is that I know exactly how much she's eating -- the bad news is the monotony of the same meal every single day. No matter how many times I asked what she wanted, she said "salami slices and macaroni salad". But she didn't eat much of it.

I've taken her to the grocery store; I've brought home various items for her to try, but she sticks with her tried and true and ate some, but not all of it.

Ideas? What do you pack? K she can't bring nuts and she won't eat sandwiches -- but she does like bread and deli meats, just not together. She loves ravioli, but it always seemed to become one huge sticky blob in the thermos (maybe I was doing something wrong?) Cold lunches are so much easier in the morning -- but I'd take any suggestions for hot lunches if it works for her!

Thanks for any suggestions!

Oh my goodness, lunch at 10:30am?! When does school let out in the afternoon? I hear you on the nut-free frustration. You have no idea just how many things have nuts in them until you try to pack for a picky eater in a 'nut-free zone'.

Does she LIKE the foods that are typically served for hot lunch and would she eat them later on once she is hungry? If so, can she pick up a tray and bring it back to the classroom from one of the later lunch waves- I am sure the entire school is not eating lunch that early. (Since she has to eat later for medical reasons, I don't see how they could say no to this!)

I pack crackers and I put marshmellow fluff in it. I also pack like a bagged snack like chips or Cheetos. Then something else I'm in the mood for.

My little one refused to buy hot lunch, so I pack his everyday. The nice thing is I do get to see exactly how much he is eating. Most days he takes a sandwich, a go-gurt and either a granola bar or cheese stick. I did find a wide mouth thermos that kept food warm, so some days he took pasta, mac and cheese, soup or chicken nuggets with the yougurt and other item. I also have in his 504 that the lunch room monitor peek in to make sure he has at least eaten something, because we did have a few days in the beginning that he came home with a full lunch bag. Good luck!
