Request a visit to your local CF clinic, something doesn't sound right, and you really want to be talking to the experts about the diagnosis.

The test you described is the same sweat test I think everyone has, I'm not sure why they would score it differently though. I've never heard of that. Maybe you can get them to do one and score it the normal way?

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>He said he wants to wait 3 months to see how her health is and everything else but if its bothering me that bad then he said wait a couple weeks and we will test her again and if the test came back the same then we would have to be sent to Vancouver for a definite test. But he said he thinks to go right now would be a waste of time.</end quote></div>

I say tell him it is bothering you that bad and get the test re-done sooner, and ask if they can score it the normal way. Why stress yourself out that long? I can't imagine if I had to wait 3 months to find out if my child had CF. Best of luck to you and your daughter, and keep us posted on how it goes!

I'm not sure how it works in canada, but I'd say insist on getting the test done at the actual children's hospital, because that's the test which has been thoroughly developed and examined and has been developed through peer-reviewed processes.

On the "normal" sweat test, regardless of which of two collection methods are used, the scale is the one you referred to: <40 negative, 40-60 borderline and >60 positive, and the highest you can come up with physiologically is around 160 or 170.

I think it would be very reasonable for you to insist that your child be tested through a means which is well established. In fact, I think it would be reasonable to insist on doing both a genetic screen and a traditional sweat test.

Good luck!

In canada you have to have a referral to see any type of specialist right?

Two methods of sweat analysis are most frequently used: chloride
concentration and conductivity measurement. The sweat chloride
analysis is recommended as the diagnostic test for CF. Sweat
conductivity may be used to screen for CF.<br>
<br>
I just read that off a site. Is there a difference in the scoring
of that I wonder.<br>
<br>
I am waiting for my husband to return back home so I can phone
Vancouver ( I have a 2 year old as well and hes not exactly quiet
right now <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
