What Extra Supplements do you take and why?

I know alot of you all take extra supplements but I just am not sure what to take or what to do. How do you know they really work? I have taken Juice Plus before and was actually this sickest I have ever been on it. I have taken other berry extract products and do not notice a difference.

How do you know what to take and what is really working???

I know there are studies for the different health supplements out there but I tend to lean towards the idea that all the supplements have their scientific studies and all say take this one.

Confused and not sure if it is worth to spend money on. I am SUPER compliant in all meds and treatments, CF has been holding steady no super declines, eat good, exercise, get lots of rest ect. Take my ADEKS!

How do I know what to do? I know you all will have some great suggestions and explanations and I welcome them!! Thanks!

I take extra magnesium. The meds we take for CF (like albuterol and zithromax) deplete mg from our bodies. I take between 400 and 800 mg a day depending on what I think my status is. When I'm feeling well I take 400mg. But if I'm sick or on extra meds I take up to 800mg a day. For me the effect is very noticeable. When I'm deficient in magnesium I get tachycardia episodes and my asthma gets worse. I think my mg levels are pretty stable right now and I haven't had a tachycardia episode in over a month (when bad I'll get them every day). I also sleep better. You can't use a standard blood test to see if you're mg deficient because only 1 percent of the mg in our bodies is in our blood. And most doctors and nutritionists are woefully uninformed about mg deficiency. The nutritionist at my clinic told me that almost nobody is mg deficient and I most likely wasn't either (completely false).

I also take extra folic acid (trying to get pregnant), extra B complex (for my cycle), extra C, extra calcium, and I can't remember what else. This is all in addition to a regular multi vitamin. All my vitamin levels are normal. When I remember I take cod liver oil. And I add ground flax seed to my oatmeal every morning.

I take extra B2 vitamins. Apparently the abx we go on can cause deficiency in this area too. When I was on Tobi and Zyvox about four months ago, I noticed I had really dry skin and lips, and this was in the spring time, so the dryness should have been going away. The dry lips and skin stayed with me for about a month after I stopped those meds, so I called the doc and they told me to take some of the B2. Well two months later the same thing happened with Tobi and Zyvox, even with the B2 (b/c i kept taking it). So now, I take one pill every day, even when I am not on abx.

I'm all about Omega 3 EFA's (aka Fish Oil). It reduces inflammation, and is basically the Bomb!
