What is colistin?

So, while we're on the subject of colistin...some of you have mentioned using it instead of TOBI.

I have tried TOBI twice in my life, and given up both times because the side effects were absolutely heinous.

Do those of you who switched to colistin find it more tolerable?

hi there,

I took coliiitn nebs for a while. (loved it bc other than other meds i thought it tasted like vanilla frosting, versus cat pee )

but my doctors have said HELL no to it! they say it is bad now. ask your doc! try to get off it. not much research done there.

Best,
meg

My docs (at 3 different CF centers in the past 5 years) have a lot of patients on coli and use it for those of us who can't tolerate TOBI. I think it is MUCH easier to take and has no side effects for me. The only bad part is that you have to mix it and its not very "stable" outside of the fridge and can only be stored in the fridge (according to CF service pharmacy) for up to 24 hours.
