Now, I don't mean to hi-jack the thread, but, can someone give me some ideas of how to USE Duocal? We have it, but I rarely use it. Usually just in yogurt and yougurt drink. Emily seems to be able to taste it in other things and then rejects them. So, give me your best "duocal recipies." I'm open to anything!

Tami - you can use it in any type of beverage (Pediasure, juice, milk, coco or whatever), pudding, yogurt, apple sauce, mashed potatoes, sauces like spaghetti sauce etc. - basically anything that is wet enough for it to disolve. I tried it myself and I don't think it has a taste to it as much as it changes the texture of the food if you use too much. You could try just putting a teaspoon of it in the food and if she doesn't notice then you could increase it the next time you make that item.

Have you guys used Benecalorie? Duocal is powder and is easier to use but Benecal is 330 calories per small tub- 1 1/2 oz. It is a thick liquid (almost like evap. milk)We use it in Josh's g-tube formula. You can also add it to potatoes, mac and cheese etc.

sorry Carrie, I just checked- benecal has milk protein (calcium carbonate)

I skimmed the responses but didn't see this one - sorry if it's a repeat. Our docs recommended a powder called 'Polycose' when we needed to kick up the cals on our little guy's formula. You can order it at Walgreens, Albertsons, other pharmacies. It's about $11 - $14 a can but it worked like a charm. Good luck.
