I haven't packed yet but my center says to have 3 day supply of your meds as well as toiletries and some loose comfortable pjs and slippers. I'm sure I'll over pack like I was going in for a tune up and take a book and my ipod and maybe some movies lol

It's my husband that is being evaluated. He is almost finished with the tests. He lacks the heart cath, an EGD and the dental clearance. He hopefully will be finished with these in 2 weeks and then back to the transplant center to meet with the surgeon and then their decision if he is a candidate.

I know I am putting the cart before the horse. I want to have everything on hand if they decide to list him because I work a lot and need to get this one thing out of the way.

Since you are wondering for your husband and not you...im sure he wont need the nipple covers hehe.

But I def reccommend some basketball shorts or something like that and a t-shirt or tank. But thats only cause I like to get out of the hospital gowns ASAP, and the drs want you up and walking around almost the next day...the day I woke up I sat up and got into a chair and then the next day I walked, though not far. So its up to your husband if he wants to wear a gown while walking around or his own clothes.

I packed a bag and then left it in the car. I figured I wouldnt be able to get into those clothes for atleast a few days, so why lug it around. My mom ended up having to buy me all new clothes to wear because I retained alot of fluid( 20+ pounds post op) and couldnt fit into my pants. Once the chest tubes come out, wear real clothes, it will make you feel human again. Oh and bring toiletries and prepare yourself to wash up in the sink becasue alot of centers wont let you shower post op, so I went 3 weeks without one. My poor mom had to wash my hair in the sink every other day.
I also found that hard candies are the best thing in the world. I was NPO for weeks afterwards ( because of a post op ileus) but I was allowed to have Jolly Ranchers, so pack something like that.
Good luck on your transplant adventure!

He might just like those nipple covers, but I don't think I will pack any for this trip. Thanks to everyone. If you think of anything else please add it to the list.

i agree with country girl. Bring something cool to wear! you do get very hot with all the meds. i liked wearing loose tank tops too. you don't want anything too tight because your chest will feel tight enough. Hospital gowns work best for awhile. I also had a big supply of shorts. I did't like not having any underware on when i came off the vent. But the hospitals always have underwear for you. The disposable kind! have a web site set up of some kind that you can keep friends and family posted on your well being. have a family member or good friend update this for you. Bring a pair of tennis shoes so when you start to work with rehab you can walk the halls safely and comfortably. Bring your own pillow too. Nothing worse than already being hot and sweaty and having to use a plastic pillow.
