What was your Most beneficial change

What was the most beneficial change you've made health wise? Something that you started doing at some point in your life that REALLY helped you, not only limited to CF. Medications and such yes, but mainly lifestyle or eating habit changes, that sort of thing.

As for medications: I think that starting the Hypertonic Saline helped loads, especially once I started doing the Flutter valve WITH the vest.

As for health and lifestyle: When I stopped drinking soft drinks. When I started getting to bed earlier. When I'm exercising.

When I stopped drinking Sodas it seemed to take awhile to get it all out of my system, but I started drinking a lot more water, and I just started feeling MUCH better. Lighter, I guess would be a good way to put it. Like jogging or working out or anything when you don't drink soft drinks feels completely different than when you do, everything seems harder when you have had a soda. For some reason I was craving a drink today, so I had a soft drink (first one in a long time) and I drank about half of it, then just felt.... blah... that's what made me think about this.

I used to dance about three days a week, started when I was about 7 and I quit last September. I suddenly realized how quickly pudge grows up on the body, and I felt slower and tired all the time. I finally started jogging daily and I've felt really good. I've been sleeping better, getting out of bed faster in the morning, doing tharapy faster. It's great. So I've realized how important exorcise is.

I don't have CF...but I too stopped drinking pop. I was getting kidney stones every 2-3 months. Had 10 total 3 requiring lithotripsy. Pretty much as soon as I stopped drinking pop the frequency went down I have been gettin only about 1-2 a year now instead. Apparently people who get them always will but drinking pop made it so much worse. Not only did I benefit that way but I dropped 10 lbs just from not drinking it anymore.

The HTS has done wonders for me, and has helped increase my FEV1.

Also, about 13 years ago I stopped all dairy products and switched to soy. This was risky because I need the calcium and vitamins. But ingesting any kind of dairy made my lungs feel so heavy and all around I felt yucky. Now my lungs feel so much better without the dairy intake. Although I miss cheese so much!!!! (my favorite food, hands down).

I definitely agree on the soda. I also stopped dringing it and felt better. I also lost a few pounds too. I started eating not only well balanced meals, but eating small meals every 2-3 hours. This helped tremendously with my blood sugar levels, which in turn gave me more energy.

I try to excersize regularly, but I have busy kids and sometimes I can't work out. If I can't I still try to at least get a walk in. If I'm at my youngest son's baseball games, I will walk around the ballpark or something. I'm lucky I have a treadmill at work, so I try to do at least 15 min at lunch time everyday.
