Watching the news yesterday, they had been starting talks about hiking up the commmodity taxes for food, clothing and such things like that.
Currently, the tax rate is 5%, but they forcasted 14% within a few years or so.
I had already told the wife that if the taxes go higher than California, I'm leaving for the States! (I recall that with about a 7.8% tax in California, they're the highest so far)
However, being away for so long, I don't know what the tax rates are per State these days and was hoping I could be filled in on that.
When I left Michigan 15 years ago, it was 4%, but I thought I heard they had raised that to 6% or so....
Of course, this may help me decide which State to return to <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> . I find it a problem that as a foreigner in Japan, I don't have the right to vote, unless I decide to give up my U.S. Passport...which is very unlikely, because if I had any kind of problem with the Japanese Gov., the U.S. wouldn't be able to help me anymore, nor would my returns to the States be easy...so I'd rather return than to be sucked dry cause this place can't properly finance their own tax dollars!
