We have been trying to find out what is causing my 14 mo DS symptoms for about 10 months now. My mom, who has been my rock through all of this, called me about a week ago. She works in a small town hospital & knows all the docs that work there. She was talking to the life partner of one of them about all my DS symptoms one day. This person is an RN in the peds dept of a larger hospital in our area. After hearing what all we had been going through she strongly suggested we start testing for CF. Since my DS had just had an appointment with his ped the week before I called the nurse & asked if we could have a sweat test done. She asked the doc & the doc's response was "If that's what Mom wants." I have read every post I can find on here about sweat testing & feel like I am pretty well informed about it. We went for the test yesterday.

Now here's where I would like some opinions because I can't decide what to do. The lab said the results would be available today but since our ped did't request that they be faxed to her office they would mail them. My problem is that knowing that the results are ready is killing me & I don't want to wait till next week to find out what his numbers are.

So do I
a) Call his very busy peds office to have them call the lab to get the results and risk becoming the pushy, paranoid, pain in the butt mom.

or

b) Just wait for them to call me when they get the results in the mail or tell me at our next visit scheduled for 3/7/08.

Please give me your opinion on how you would handle this situation?

Thank you for your reply.

I was told by the lab that they can not give the results directly to me. We have to go through the our doctor's office.

In my experience with Dr's offices the nurses won't release results until after a doctor has seen them and allows the nurses to contact the patient (or he/she does it herself if the Dr. wishes to share both good news and bad news).

I think if you call the office today and politely ask them to contact the lab and have the results faxed to the office. As his mother you are very worried and it is adversely affecting you and your son. If they can't understand that and get the results to you today, then just try again tomorrow. I would call and do the "waiting is killing us" routine. If they are a warm, caring office, they will let you know something sooner rather than later.
