When is your child's cough the worst?

My son has had a chronic cough on and off for years, now it's been on for 5 months. When his cough is at its peak, he'll start coughing immediately up waking up. But most of the time it starts about 10 - 30 minutes after he wakes up, and I'm wondering why that would be. I'm trying to figure out whether it's due to asthma, allergies (all his allergy tests came back negative) or what. It just seems weird that it doesn't start right away. He coughs a lot in the morning, and then periodically throughout the day. Only very occasional night time coughs. I was curious, at what time of day your kids cough is the worst and if anyone know's why people cough at some times of the day/night and not others. Thanks everyone.

I cough the most in the morning and I always figured its because the mucus and junk in my lungs settles while I sleep and when I get up it starts moving around again if that makes any sense.

ThWhen is your child's cough the worst?

This happen to my daughter last year finally in May of this year her doctors gave her a broncoscopy. They were able to get out a lot of mucus. It turn out that she was growing a few different bacterias including psuedomonas. These bacterias did not come up on her sputum culture. before having the procedure she was coughing for months even with different therapies. she needed to be admitted in the hospital and put on ivs for two weeks. now she is on tobi every other month and does not cough as much as she use to.

I'd say if DS does cough the time of day tends to be when I pick him up after work.

DS really doesn't cough, though if he laughs hard or gets upset he'll have sort of a hoarse sounding "swallowed" wrong kind of cough. When he's more tired he'll get this way as well.

He also tends to get postnasal drip and will sometimes cough some of that junk up.

Me, it's worst when I wake up in the am--just like mag said. If I do something super active the night before (like go on a run) it's not as bad. But about lunch time my cough is mostly gone. The trick is to KEEP MOVING!

Has he had a ct scan to check his sinuses? When ds's cough is sinus related, it tends to be the worst in the am and he tends not to cough while sleeping. On the other hand, if it's a lung infection, he'll cough all day and through the night (while sleeping)

Honestly, my daughter's cough get worse when it's Friday afternoon the doctor is on vacation and my husband is out of town. I'm kind of joking but it always seems to be that way<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
