Which criteria for choosing a vest?

Hi - I want to ask a question - We have had the Hilrom vest since April for a "trial". Since then they have tried to get insurance to pay for it. They finally called me a couple of weeks ago and said the appealing is over I can either pay for it - I said not an option or fill out papers to see if they could help us. I guess my question is if I want to try the other vest Hil Rom still has to take theirs back right ? since it is just a trial. I just don't know what to do - I want to get whats best but we can't afford to pay for it - darn insurance!

Well it sounds like your HillRom is going to be taken away unless you pay for it or they set up some kind of payment plan.

But if you want to try the Respirtech Vest, there's no reason why you can't try it while you're working out paperowrk with HillRom. It's not as though the two companies communicate and say "one Vest per household!!!"

I think that's what you're asking.... if I'm missing it let me know and I'll try to give a better answer.

Heather,

Hi! We have the Resp. Incourage. We love it! From what I have seen other people posts about their Hill Rom, there are a few great advantages to the Incourage.

#1..Tubes never pop off. They are actually clamped on.

#2..It is completely programable. We use the quickstart, we don't have to touch it after it gets started.

#3..We felt the vest & tubes of the Hill Rom at a CFF family day. The Incourage seems sturdier, made very well.

#4..Customer service was awesome. They sent out the machine, then a tech. She and I agreed the vest was a bit too large for Zoe, so they immediatly sent her the smaller one. Also, the lady who was doing the insurance, said they would do everybit of the paperwork, and if there was any problems at all, they would appeal, appeal, appeal. It took almost 4 months, but my insurance paid 100% of the machine. $12,900!!

#5..It also has a carrying case.

#6..The studies show this type of triangle wave forms work best.(really the number 1 reason we chose it-we studied a bit before deciding)

Hope this helps! Good luck on your decsision!

What makes me mad is that insurance won't cover the vest because Tanner hasn't been that sick - hospitalized at 8wks and 6months and that was it. They don't understand that CF is 98% preventative measures! He has more sinus/polyps issues right now.

It's my understanding they have a foundation to help with costs if the appeal process doesn't work and also payment plans. We assumed with BCBS we'd be responsible for 20% of the cost, so we'd set aside $3000 early one; however, we were assigned a managed care, case worker and costs were paid 100%

Jaden just got the Hill Rom 105 vest and it is nice. I really have nothing to compare it to but I love it. The trainer that showed us how to use it set it for us and it is so easy to use. So far no problems with the tubes coming out cause she stays pretty still since it is still very new to her and she is afraid to move. Comes with a great travel bag too. She calls it her "washing machine".
