Which doctor do you call?

Just a question. When your child or yourself (with CF) start getting sick such as with a cold and stuff who do you call. Your CF doctor or your primary care doctor or Pediatrician?

I get confused on who I should really call. I typically call the Pediatrician. But when I asked one of the doctors in the Clinic where Austin goes for CF and Kaydan goes for Asthma he said he would prefer that we call them with issues like that. He said generally they can look to see what Austin has cultured and generally call in something instead of always being seen.

So I asked to have the doctor call me about Austin and i didn't get a phone call yesterday. So today I called back and the nurse took down all the info and told me he was in clinic today and would get the message to him and see how he wanted to proceed since his FEV1 was down at clinics on Oct. 8 and he just finished up clindamyacin a few days after that visit for a sinus infection.

No one called so I called back around 3 and she said they would try their hardest to get to him and have him call back today. Well that didnt happen.

I know it is another sinus infection, The nurse said alot of times once they start getting the sinus infections they just keep getting them. And discuss what we need to do about them.

I know this is gross but his left nostril is disgusting. He has yellow snot coming out. And typical boy wiping it on his sleeve. So I'm not sure what I should do until Monday. I guess keep an eye on him and ride it out until Monday.

What typically do they do after so many sinus infections?

I call my CF clinic for pretty much everything. Only things I'd call a regular doc for would be like... a gynecological problem, something that's pretty safely NOT involved in my CF care.

Ditto with Em. I dont have a "primary doctor" locally. Whoever I have are specialists like Neurologist for my Epilepsy, GYN for, well, woman stuff. ALL "medical" goes thru my clinic.

As a kid my Mom dealt with our local Pediatrician just as much as the CF clinic, but my Pediatrician kept up with CF. He still does & he is now Jazmines pediatrician. I always have to get that in there because I think it is so freaking neat!

Max got frequent sinus infections when he was a baby and his regular peds doctor didn't think they were an issue. His CF doctor in the city though was concerned that the sinus infection could cause issues with his lungs, so he'd prescribe augmentin. Fortunately his CF doctor's office is good about getting back to us about issues and would also prefer we deal with them instead of the local doctor. And I guess locally, we've been burned too many times being told it's "just a virus" or "Cfers cough, it's what they do.
