Ok,
Here we go again! I have insurance (Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield) from my husband since he works full time and buys this insurance for us....
Then on the other hand...
I have Medicare.

So my huge problem is that pharmacies are calling me asking or telling me that one is primary, etc etc, how do I figure out which one is primary? Is is the one we buy or is it thru the government?

I am not getting my RX's filled because there are such issues with this so now I'm going w/out meds. I have called the social worked at my hospital (LIKE 2 MONTHS AGO) and she has never gotten back to me with an answer....I really don't know what she's does all day...but anyway, that's a whole different topic.

I have called both insurance & medicare but always get the run around.

Can anyone help me, please?!

Thanks,
Kelli

Here's how it works. If you husband's company employs less than 100 employees, then Medicare is your primary and his ins. is your Secondary.

If they are larger and employ more than 100, then they are Primary. My husband has changed jobs oodles of times and Medicare has always told me this. I have to call them each time to tell them the new name of the other insurance, so I have this very planted in my mind. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> If I remember that it could sink a small co. having huge medical bills piled on them, it helps me remember which is which. The smaller co. need the help so Medicare is PRIMARY when the co. is smaller.

Hope this helps. Oh, you will need to contact Medicare (it's a real pain in the neck. You have to go through so many levels and choices!) and establish which they are and tell them who the other ins. is. You will need to contact Anthem to let them know the order, also. Nothing gets paid until this is done. Unless you have Prescr. thru Medicare, they will be filled thru Anthem.

Kelli,
We have 2 insurance policies for my daughter as well. I just made a bunch of calls last week to straighten everyone out. The insurance companies should be able to tell you which one is primary, I'd start with calling your husbands plan. When I called our group plan they said right away that they were the primary plan. I then had to call all her pharmacies, Drs, and medical supply companies to make sure they were billing properly.

Hope that helps.
