Which insurance is primary & how do I straighten this out

Another thing to add to Debbie's great explanation.....IF the company does employee more then 100 people making your husbands insurance primary...this is while he is actively working.

For example when my husband retires......his insurance becomes secondary to Medicare instead of Primary as it is now. Of course I told him he can never retire so its not really an issue <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">

Good Luck.....its usually a frustrating & often daunting task to get it straightened out.

I just wanted to third what Debbie and Mel both said ... and also add no offense to Sarah I would NOT call the insurance companies. I spent months dealing with insurance companies that I have to figure out which ws primary .. secondary and terciary and everyone of them was passing the buck to the other. None of the companies want to be the one to carry the brunt of the expense so they are going to all push it to the next person and leave you with bills piling up. Just say that from experience.

Good Luck and Take Care,

I guess I just got lucky. Our group plan is through Microsoft. They insure themselves and are very generous. The woman I talked with was actually a b**chy about the fact that a claim had gone to our other plan.

I was told that under 100 employees Medicare is Primary and over 100 your husband's would be primary. If you need meds I believe you need to go through your husbands prescription plan cause you only have coverage for rx's on medicare if you got medicare part D. Part D you would have to buy.

Good luck. Sorting through insurance stinks. You can also contact your husband's HR dept and they can tell you if they are primary over medicare. Talk to the person who handles benefits.
