My oldest who is now 8 has always gone into what he calls "the hot pool". He is very healthy lung wise but we feel that it is most of the time hot enough that it is going to kill anything in there anyways.

I think anytime he has been in one there has only been maybe one "stranger" in there with us. Hope this helps.

Mainly after reading health reports about fecal material and amount of bacteria in public hot tubs -- millions of particles -- grossed me out to the point that even I won't set foot in one any more. The temp in the one we had was about 104-106 degrees F, so it created a very conducive environment for bacteria to grow if we got lax in maintenance.

There was also an article awhile back about jacuzzi tubs and how bacteria in the jets, which never dried and all I could think about was the jacuzzi tub they had at the hospital in my room when DS was born. Oh well, I survived, but again am not as apt to use one at a hotel or hospital for that matter.

A few years ago my hubby wanted a hot tub, so I asked the girls CF doctor and he said "Tell hubby to save up for a pool instead of a hot tub! The hot tubs do not get hot enought to kill germs, only hot enough to let them breed." Soooo, they broke ground for our pool yesterday

I have also read, as Liza has, about the jets never drying out, so I don't like my girls in those eiter.

My girls know that the Dr. said no hot tubs, and that I do not approve for them to get into one. I told them when they get older, they will make those choices on their own, but for now it's what I am comfortable with. They are okay with it!
