Well back to the doctor again today for Graycie, still has an ear infection. 3 weeks now. Snotty nose, draining down her throat and they say that is what is making her cough so much and puke up mucus. Putting her on a different antiboitic. Is the ear infections linked to her sinus problems right now? They don't want to put tubes in right now because she has been through so much now. Anyone else have this problem? What did they do? Thanks for your help its nice to be able to come here and get some idea of whats happening.

My youngest (18 months) has been known for her ear infections. Her pediatrician even said that she has seen her in her office with ear problems more then without them.

They finally put tubes in her ears a week ago and she seems to be doing way better. We arent sure if her hearing has improved because we havent had the follow up visit yet.

Have they done any cultures to see what/if she's growing and to determine if the abx they're prescribing are appropriate for her infection.

With DS we had issues with amoxicillan not working for his ear infections -- if that was what the doctor prescribed we knew darn well we'd be back at the clinic a week or so after we were done. In his case augmentin worked best for him. At one point because he had a sinus infection that just wouldn't quit he was put on a higher dosage to get rid of the infection once and for all because of concerns the stuff could run into his lungs and cause problems there.

IMO, I'd push for a culture to get to the bottom of things, when DS cultured enterbactor choclae (sp), he had a nasty cough which caused him to vomit, snotty nose...

My two oldest boys both had chronic ear infections. They got their first set of tubes when Jordan was 9 months old. At that time, they told me his aednoids were already rotten, and would need to come out as soon as he was old enough to be under anesthesia that long.

Both of the boys had numerous sets of ear tubes over the years. Jordan absolutely could not sleep laying flat. I had to put phone books under the mattress in his baby bed. It really helped keep the fluid from draining into his ears.
