Will I qualify for SSI?

My first suggestion would be to talk to the social worker at your cf center. s/he should at least be able to offer you some guidance as to how to get started. The other thing you might want to do is check out social security's website and read up on the section entitled: Disability & SSI. I think you can earn some money from working while collecting SSI, but I think you might have to be totally disabled (i.e., not working) to get approved in the first place. Once you are approved, they have programs for helping you return to work, etc. I'm not positive about this, but this is my suspicion. Anyway, here's the link for social security's website: http://www.ssa.gov/

Good Luck!

Prussian,
I get SS Disability. The whole thing STILL confuses me. My pft's are moderate I guess, I have to make under $940 a month to get benefits.

I used to get more money per month, but then I got Medicare Part D (extra RX coverage, good for nothing), so now my monthy $ went down over $200.
So I pay $200 for mandatory coverage that is horrible, go figure.

I don't think they go on income (to see if you qualify), I had to fill out forms, etc. and then finally got accepted. It's a huge pain in the butt BUT it IS extra $ each month.

I'm sure this was not a huge help but if you want to PM me with specific questions, I will try to help you.

I think speaking with the CF social worker is a good place to start, or go to the website, www.ssa.org. They have a lot of info. I would even call SS and speak to someone there. You have to devote a lot of time to this but if moving out is what you're looking for...this will help.

Good luck,
Kelli
