Sorry to burst anybodys bubble here, but here it goes anyway.

I do three hours physiotherapy on my boys everyday, more if they are sick. To say it is the lazy mans way is utter bullsh*t! They also do two pep sessions each per day. On top of that both boys play soccer, basketball, street hockey, and any other thing they can fit in, for example swimming and riding their bikes, roller blading, etc. Are they healthy........no, do they have good lung function.......no. Their pfts are normally around 49 but have gone as low as 29. They have been hospitalised more times then I can count, sometimes for very long periods of time. The boys and myself work damn hard at keeping them healthy but sometimes physio and exercise just isnt enough.
Some people are not fortunate enough to be able to exercise, there are periods of time where my kids get out of breath just walking up the stairs and it is certainly not because they are lazy! Yes, exercise is very important, not just for cfers but for anyones health, but for optimal preventive measures, whats wrong with adding a little CPT here and there.........it certainly wouldnt do any harm!

I am not anonymous and I will also say that your comment was offensive. I work full time, raise 5 kids, two with CF and one with a yet undiagnosed learning disorder (we believe he is autistic) and I am anything but lazy. I make the girls do their treatments, as I said earlier, because I want to do what's best for them regardless of whether I see immediate results or not. My girls are also very active. They do everything from track, cheerleading, playing the flute, to just riding bikes for fun...they are definately active. I think everyone was kind and considerate to you in answering your question (much more so than I expected) and I think it was a very hard stab at us for you to make the comment you did. Doing CPT because we belive it will help our children does not make us lazy. It makes us good parents because we are doing what we believe is best. The same for you. You are doing what you think is best. Let's leave it at that and not attack each other since we are all doing the best we can to take care of our kids. None of use knows what the future holds and we are all fighting the same fight. Just because we are using different gloves to fight with doesn't make either of us wrong. Judging other people, however, does make us wrong.

Now this is just my opinion, but I don't see CPT as a preventative. I see it as something that helps clear your lungs, that brings gunk up that normally wouldn't come up in everyday activity. My mum did CPT on me twice a day everyday while I was growing up, and I still cultured Pseudo at 14, and still got mucus in my lungs. Getting Pseudo is inevitable. I think the reason that people are not getting Pseudo early in life, or are living longer is due to meds - puffers, TOBI, Colistin, you name it.

Good way to describe it and that makes since why people doing CPTs
are still getting sick.  But if they didn't do CPTs they would
have decreased lung function and more chance for infections to set
into the mucus.<br>
