"you look in good shape

I get it a lot also because i look fine and i hide my illness well. Even my new boyfriend asked me one day...." well what did you do all day" when i mentioned being tired and feeling drained after having the day off from work. The way i explained it to him was............ I asked him if he remembers when he had pneumonia and how awful he felt. I told him someone with cf feels that way on a daily basis even when they are well. We have pneumonia every day of our lives and it never goes away yet we manage to push thru it and have lives. They ( the lucky enough who are healthy) only feel that way a small handful of times in their lives. I tell anyone who makes a comment about being lazy or unmotivated "next time you are sick as a dog and cant get out of bed, i want you to go out and go about your day in a normal fashion like those of us with cf do, and then and only then can you complain about me being lazy or unmotivated". So far it's never happened.
Im sorry you are feeling crappy Rami, and i hope you feel a bit better soon. In a way its kind of cool to look great when we feel so crappy ( not always easy to pull off), but it also can work against us. My explaination about pneumonia always get's them thinking and almost always shuts 'em up pronto, because they never think into it that far.

I've yet to find a good way to deal with those comments... I even hear them from medical professionals...."you look far too healthy to have CF". Thanks loads, buddy, but if my lungs were on the outside you might not be saying that!</end quote></div>

I was just thinking if you rephrased that to say "If you turned me inside out you wouldn't say that!!" <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

It depends on me, if I'm in good shape and they comment, its good...if I feel bad and need to rest or something and they say that, its bad!
Though sometimes when I'm nearly coughing a lung out and it doesn't phase the MIL, it frustrates me when its after an argument with her and she continues!!
Though equally, if I'm nearly coughing up a lung and someone lights a cigarette in front of me...I wanna clobber em! (fortunately it's never happened)

I guess it depends upon HOW it's said. Sometimes friends and family members will make a comment to say "hey, you guys are doing a great job taking care of DS". Which makes me feel kinda weird because what else would we do?

The ones that bug me are when it's said in spite -- coworkers, people who are implying we're faking all of this for attention. The "he doesn't look sick" comments while looking down their noses. Those usually get a sarcastic response from my husband on the lines of "gee, the genetic blood testing results from Mayo Clinic must've been wrong. Thank you for telling us that our child isn't sick"

Other times, if it's not said in spite, we'll use that opportunity to educate.
