Emily has been on Zithromax for 3 months (she takes it every Monday, Wednesday, Friday) and her PFT's on Tuesday were better than they have been in I can't remember when. I am wondering if anyone is using this protocol and are you having the same wonderful results???Barbara

HI Barbara,My daughter has been on the same regiman of zithromax as your daughter. She has also been using the vest and pulmozyme. I think thecombination of the three has helped her greatly, last visit in Jan. her pfts were 100%, the best they've ever been. Take care!Heidi-mom of Libby 8 w/cf

My son is 43 and was going down hill fast! Last October (after reading an article in the paper about the recent test results). my son's doctor was questioned and she put him on Zithromax on a trial basis. Almost immediately he showed improvement. His pfts were decreasing 2-4% a year and just since October, they have increased over 2%. He is feeling better than he has in years. My wife and I are still holding our breath, but he just keeps getting better. If you or your child have not talked to their doctor yet, please do! It is definitely worth a try! I haven't figured out yet how to show my name, but it is Bill Coon. Good luck to all CFers.

I think we are all anonymous unless we give our names at the end of our e-mail. I can't believe the change in Emily....it is almost unbelievable! She takes the Zithro on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and we know it is making a HUGE difference because by Sunday night/Monday monring, when she hasn't had a dose, she starts to feel a little lousy! By Monday night, she is getting energy again! YEAH for Zithromax!Barbara

You have to register and then log in everytime you come on to keep form being anonymous!Anyway, I started Zitromax Saturday, 1 a day. I am AMAZED at the difference in my breathing and enegy levels. It was as soon as I got home from work I wanted to go to bed. Now, I feel like giong to the gym and everything else. Heck I almost feel like the enegizer bunny! I can not wait to go back to the DR and see what this does to my PFT. But that still a month away! Between the zithromax and the gym, i see good things in the future! One thing I have notices though is I am more senstive to pollutants like smoke, dust ect. But is doesn't take me near as long to "recover" after I have been in a smokey enviormant either.Take care and God Bless!B..26/f w/cf + Biker Babe

I have a question for everyone. My doc told me to go on Azithromax at my last appointment (just a few days ago) The only strange thing is he sadi that I could either do 500mg Monday, Wednesday, and Friday OR I could do 250mg everyday seven days a week. He said it was up to me and I could decide which seems easier. I found this strange because if I take it everyday i will be getting 1750mg a week and if I do it M/W/F I will be getting 1500mg a week. It is not a huge difference, but I was wondering is their a benifit for doing it one way verses another. What are you guys doing? I was also wondering ehy he doesn't even care to record which dose I am taking...Oh well just wanted to see what most people are doing so I can decide which to do. Thanks

I am doing the 250 a day everyday. My dr didn't really dive me an option. I would figure the consistancy would keep it in your system more. I also at first thought the every other day was for the kids not having such a high dose, but your Dr's idea of 500 mg three days a week blew that out of the water! Anyways GOOD LUCK! I have had nothing but a good experiance with this!

Hi all,I just have to laugh with delight that the zithromax is working so well for so many people. My daughter is four with CF and she was often sick up until she was 2. She was always given augmentin first (even though it did nothing but give her diarhea and diaper rash/yeast infection) then Cipro (worse diarhea and worse diaper rash/ yeast infection) Then she would end up in the hospital. After her first few infections I asked about her trying zithromax as it had just come out in a children's formula (I had been on it with no side effects) I was told that it wouldn't help and that It wasn't strong enough for kids with CF. Now, for the past few weeks I have seen a lot online about zithro being wonderful and new studies and everything! I am so happy as I know now if she starts getting sick again I can point this out to the doc.s. No little kids should have to put up with the diarhea andy east infections that she had. She is on chronic bactrim and tobi already but they don't give her the awful side effects that the others did. Andrea

Hello all! I have a son who is about 3 1/2 years old. He's been on Zithromax since November 8,2001 and he's done GREAT!! We've been hospital free ever since! Thank God for Zithromax!! I asked the doctor why and he told me that studies have been done and show it decreases inflamation in the lungs, thus they are able to clear secreations better. Hope everyone else is as happy as we are! Tonya mother of Zachary 3 1/2 with cf, Tyler 6 without cf and due Aug 1st with another boy!

So... forgive my math.... how old was Zachary when he went on Zithromax? My son is 9 months old and has been on and off oral antibiotics for the last 4 months (almost since he was diagnosed!). At what point do we ask to go on something stronger? Was your little guy sick often? I guess I'm just getting frustrated that we are contstantly giving him oral meds... maybe they're not working? Just thought I'd ask questions to compare notes and start asking the docs if we need to get more aggressive... thanks in advance for any info.Salima

I started Zithromax 3 weeks ago after being on Septra for a month and it not helping. I feel MUCH better, about 30-40% better, I have not felt this well in at least a year. It has bothered my stomach a drop, but it is well worth it, I believe. Ask your doctor if you can take it.Billy B

I actually got massive hives and swollen lips as a result from taking zithromax. However this was after three months of feeling great while on it. So far, I seem to be the only person who has had a bad result. Perhaps I recieved a bad batch of pills. Maybe I will try again.I envy you people.Sean

To Salima (and all) -My son just turned five and is just about to start Zithromax (we order our medicine through our insurances mail sevice to save money on co-pays). At Sean's last checkup (a few days after his birthday), his doctor discussed Zithromax with me in great detail. She said that at the national conference there was a big debate about when to start a child on zithromax. Right now the current protocol is to start a child on zithromax around the age of six. She explained that this is because all the studies for zithromax have only included children six years and up so far. However, she stressed that this in turn is at the age of six, doctors can get more accurate test results. Six-year-olds can do PFT's regularly and thus actually test and record any lung improvements. Our doctor however didn't see any reason not to start a child of five or even four on zithromax. I don't know what she would recomend for infants (since we didn't dicuss that age group), but I would definitely ask your doctor about his/her feelings about when to start your son. Our son thankfully still has very healthy lungs - we opted to start zithromax b/c of the anti-inflamatory properties. The less inflamation in his lungs, the better his ability to clear his lungs, which hopefully, in turn, will give him the best chance to remain healthy. We are all for a safe and aggressive treatment for our son. When I asked her about the possibility to build up an immunity to zithromax, she said the reason that is not a problem is b/c we would be using zithromax for its anti-inflamatory properties and not for its antibotic/medicinal properties. Good luck.Katrina - mother of Sean (5) w/cf, Carolyn (3.5) w/o cf, and Allison w/o cfP.S. I was so happy to read so many positive results from zithromax. I wish all of you and your families continued health and energy :)

Quote
Originally posted by: BI can not wait to go back to the DR and see what this does to my PFT. But that still a month away! I post this back in March and I still have not been back to the DR yet and still felling great! This stuff really works! But I do want to know what my lung functions are though--I am bad about not going to the Dr unless I NEED to go..Thus my lung functions on records are not necessarly the best.. Guess I need to make that appointment soon!I hope that all of you are continuing to feel the effects of this amazing drug!
