Hi all, hoping someone has some experience with this. It's been recommended that Piper start some sort of anti-anxiety medication, and it is a recommendation I agree with, she has Asperger's and GAD. The problem is the Drs are having a hard time finding one that can she can take when she's on zyvox so often. Anyone found a solution to this? Feel free to pm if you'd rather not discuss it here. TIA!

Not sure about the interaction with Zyvox either but I take Buspar daily and have Ativan if I have an anxiety attack that's really out of control. I've had great results with Buspar, noticed a huge difference after taking it for only a day!

Yes, Zyvox and some antidepressants are a big no no. I had to hold off on taking my lexapro until zyvox was totally out of my system. Sorry, can't tell you which ones are considered safe.

Thank you all, I know buspar is a no go, but I haven't seen anything mentioned on the sites about ativan, so I'll shoot her dev ped an e-mail. There's a possibility she hasn't brought it up because of the age factor, not sure.

I take Lexapro and Zyvox. My doc has to override it with the pharmacy each time I refill Zyvox though due to risk of seratonin syndrome which is considered a very dangerous side effect. I was on Lexapro for a good 6-12 mo before I ever took Zyvox. He warned me the first course I took to hang close to my husband and if I felt emotionally different at all to give him (the doc) a call. I have taken it at least 6 courses with no problem. I'm not sure if not everyone has this interaction? Perhaps she could be monitored the first time like I was? I do feel like he said it is rare but don't quote me. I take it 3-4 times a year. I switch between Vanco and Zyvox each time. Is this what Piper does? Lexapro has been a very good decision for me for keeping my anxiety away, I used to get obsessive and also manages any depression though I never had a diagnosis I do believe I suffer from SAD so this time of year I am happy I have Lexapro to help me.

Lauren,

Thanks so much. Piper is on IV linezolid at least 4 times a year for a 3-4 week run. They're unwilling to use any type of SSRI at all, because of the seratonin syndrome risk. We toyed with the idea of just discontinuing an SSRI each time she started IVs, but the problem with that is the half-life of both the lino, and the SSRIs. She can't take vanc at all, unfortunately, she has a major reaction to it(worse than red mans). We're saving desensitization until the linezolid isn't effective. On the upside, Piper is starting CBT, which hopefully will give her some more coping mechanisms. I just hate that she has to deal with the anxiety on top of everything else she has to deal with. It's funny, because I started off pretty averse to using any type of med, now that I've changed my mind, we can't find one to use. Ugh.
