Zyvox (along with Ketek in combination with Bactrim DS) are the only oral abx's that work for me now. My doctor will prescribe Zyvox for 2 weeks usually and then Ketek for 2 weeks, followed by Zyvox again, Ketek again, and then hospital time. Usually by the 4th time of orals, Ketek doesn't work. It does keep the staph down very well though. I actually didn't culture it this time after being on it for a week.

Zyvox used to work much better than it does now, but it still keeps me out of the hospital. I dread the time that it stops working..luckily the combination of Vancomycin, Tobra, and Fortaz in the hospital still gets me pretty healthy. I hardly ever use Zyvox IV though.

Reece has been on Zyvox since Dec 3rd. I just took him yesterday to have his blood drawn to check his white blood cells. Since he has been on it for so long.

He is allergic to Vanc, so Zyvox is his first choice. We are hoping that it keeps him healthy until atleast we get done with the UNC visit!
