Another enzyme issue...argh!

I'm not sure if the pharmeceutical company would reimburse you- they tend to be run as factories! But I would definitely let them know about what happened, so maybe they can make changes to the packaging or something? If I remember correctly, Creon come in GIANT bottles; they were a pain to...

    My Thoughts on the Board

Most of the time, I think that anonymous posting (again, not the starter of this post) instigates the arguments that escalate into full blown 'fights'. If anonymous posting was blocked, I think the boards would be a lot more peaceful. I feel people tend to say things as anonymous that they...

    Sweat tests

I'm pretty sure that a borderline sweat test (indicating a need for a retest) is a reading between 40-60. Sweat tests are not 'goof proof' and even though it seems your daughter doesn't have CF, a genetic test would lay any doubts in your mind to rest. Good luck

    quick question

OK a few things I feel I have to say 1) Emily and I are patients, and have had CF as a part of our lives for 20 and 15 years, respectively. You are parents, of what seem to be fairly young children with CF. When we give advice, it's from experience of living day to day life with CF- which can be...

Science Project - Son of CF'er

Cipro is an antibiotic, not a steroid. I do think the lung diagram pre and post bronchodilator's a good idea. I've done several projects on CF and did things like display the daily meds, that enzyme idea someone else mentioned. One...

    Flutter - Any Good??

The Flutter and Acapella are both MUCH MUCH more portable than the vest. The Flutter is about the size of a nebulizer cup, and the Acapella is a little bit larger than that. Like I said earlier on this thread, I LOVE my Flutter, but I think it is a matter of personal taste.

    My brother, Kevin:(

That's very unusual about his feeding tube. At least in my experience, they have become very good at putting them in and in fact, the surgery is done lapricospically (sp?) and is sometimes a outpatient procedure at my hospital. Occasionally the tube needs to be replaced; but this is just a...

    My brother, Kevin:(

Can I ask why he needs to have his feeding tube replaced? Was there a problem with the tube or was it a routine sort of thing? Another curiousity question on my part. I'm so glad he and his wife are filling out the forms to obtain...

    DO PEOPLE STARE

I don't have a problem so much with people staring when I cough (or I've just grown oblivious to it), but people stare at me ALL the time because I am very skinny. This past year was my first in high school and a bunch of upperclassmen would say things in the halls about my weight. Most implied...

    yeast in sputum culture

Whenever I have thrush in my mouth from antibiotics I use Nystatin, which is a prescription medication. Maybe if it remains a problem, ask your doctor about it?

    Flutter - Any Good??

I am a big fan of the Flutter. It makes me have the most productive coughs, and is very portable. For a five year old though, who is sort of still learning how to cough hard, I don't know if the Flutter is the best way to do airway clearance. I think it really comes down to personal preference

    birds

I think they are talking about pet birds. I've always been told birds are not good for CFers. They carry tons of bacteria, and their poop can become airborne particles which, when inhaled, are very bad for CFers. I don't know anything else about them, but I do know I've been told to avoid birds...

    CF Questions

What are his mutations? It takes 2 mutations to result in CF. If one is Delta F 508, what's the other one? Just curious. I hope your brother gets all the help he needs, and RUNS from that doctor- he sounds like he's not all that knowledgeable about CF, especially adult diagnoses. Best of luck...

    BABIES

It depends on whether your partner carries the CF gene or not. If they do, it is a 50% chance of the baby having CF. If not, it's a 25% chance.

    needles

I was so good with needles until I was about 11, when I had a traumatizing incident involving a dehydrated me, all new interns on 4th of July weekend, and getting an IV started. I've finally stopped panicking when I get IVs started or blood drawn, but I still get really anxious. I wouldn't say...

    tune up

When you go in for a tune-up, they basically give you a few (2, sometimes 3) IV antibiotics, combined with at least 3x/day physical therapy and other tests (x-rays, PFTs, etc.) The course of IVs is usually at least 2 weeks, sometimes more. This doesn't mean you are in the hospital for two weeks...

Debating to have a 2nd child??

Dave, I think you may have misunderstood my post- I was saying that you weren't bitter and that I felt you were attacked by several people on this thread. Sorry for the misunderstanding and congratulations on your wedding!

    I need help with enzymes

I have to agree on the milk thing. Milk is very important for calcium, and as far as drinks go it is one of the more high calorie ones. I personally drink a TON of milk and have a TON of dairy products, and people do say to me that "Milk thickens mucus so you shouldn't have it". Even if milk...
