Debating to have a 2nd child??

I've been trying to avoid this thread (since I think it is no longer about what the original poster intended it to be), but I think I finally have to put my two cents in. For myself (and other CFers I would probably imagine), it is very hard to believe in an all loving God. This doesn't mean I...

    Feeding Tube

Dressing kit? For your feeding tube? What sort of dressing do you have to wear? I have a Bard Button which doesn't require any kind of dressing. I was just curious because I hadn't heard of needing a dressing for a feeding tube. Thanks for the tip though- it sounds like it helps! <img...

    I need help with enzymes

I was also on Creon and didn't like it. Even though I was very responsible about taking them, I often had unpleasant stools, gas, etc. It is not normal to have greasy, yellow stools all the time (unless she has a particular diet- like a formula or something); don't be afraid to ask the doctor to...

Stem Cell Research and Lung Tissue Replacement

I consider all life sacred; and am pro-choice- meaning that I feel that the government should not be able to tell a woman what to do with her own body. Anyway, because I consider all life to be sacred, I support stem cell research. Stem cells are not life; they are not capable of feeling...

Stem Cell Research and lung tissue replacement

Hi Kylie, Ok, I'm not a political expert or anything but here goes: I think maybe a year or so ago, Bush (Republican) signed into law a ban on all stem cell research in the US with the exception of a few (100?) stem cells that remained. This was a big deal because of all the promise stem cells...

I think you should look at the thread under families-- it was started with the exact same post and has many responses.

    CF'er Character

I'm 15 (born in 1989), and I have a fairly similiar medication regimen-- the only thing I would maybe add is a nasal spray, and I also have a fast acting inhaler (though more for asthma than CF). I also have a feeding tube, but if he is going to have a more mild case, he may not have one...

    CF'er Character

I'm guessing thats to say that you don't have CF? Either way, a few tips:1) Maybe its just me, but I rarely have big, deep, life discussions with my friends about CF. We talk more about day to day stuff (obnoxious hospital roommates, dumb nurses etc).2) I can do almost anything my friends can...

    Family gene studies??

Quote

Sometimes when one CF delta f508 gene is paired with what is called the poly T mutation, a mild form of CD can result.

Is the poly T mutation a CF mutation? Also, I think its true, but not sure, that if two siblings have CF they have the same mutations-...

Medical Personal who fail to Follow Protocols

My first negative hospital memory is from when I was 5 years old. My mom, roommate and I were watching a movie as I was infusing. I must have been very engrossed in the movie because when the IV pump beeped and the dose was done, my arm was as huge as a grapefruit. The IV had infiltrated and the...

    Daily Routines

When I was that age, I pretty much had the same routine, except I did albuterol by nebulizer and not just with an inhaler. I struggled with weight gain from the time I cultured pseudomonas at about 4-5 years of age, and then it plateaued (sp?) in about 4th or 5th grade. I recently got a feeding...

    Ilove my CF twins

I said that thing about CF being commercials, and not the movie of your life. Actually it wasn't me, one of my friends used the analogy, and I posted it here. I liked it too.

Trying to get my child w/CF to eat!

I'm glad to hear someone else feels the same way as I do- sometimes just not having an appetite for a few days. I had very few problems with weight gain until I cultured pseudomonas- I was wondering if anyone else had the same experience? I also wanted to say that I got a feeding tube and am...

    Acidophaus

Yogurt is a great natural source for acidophillus... I eat a lot of yogurt for that reason, but also I just like the taste. I once tried some acidophilus you add to a drink in a blender, but it tasted something awful.

    Precautions to take at home

Be sure to clean your air conditioner vents very often. Curtains can also get very dusty... we were told to avoid carpeting completely. I wouldn't clean our bathroom daily, but it is definitely clean. Another thing-- shower curtains are breeding grounds for bacteria and mold, replace them once a...

    Please Advise, Emergency Situation

CFers usually refer to the various doctors, nurses, nutritionists, social workers etc, that they deal with as their CF Team. I think they may officially be called this as CFF accredited clinics, but most patients informally call their doctors etc their CF Team. Your friend probably at least has...

    Sending CF child to daycare?

LOL no offense taken, I suppose it was just my bad luck *shrugs*. I was trying to say that even though I stayed home, I still got pseudomonas fairly early... saying that maybe staying at home with a babysitter wasn't super helpful.

Maximum Life Expectancy - please comment

I have to agree with Emily on that one. Someone I know with CF died this past week at 21, the age at which you were diagnosed... so if someone calls you lucky, they don't mean to insult you, or make you feel bad. You are just luckier than some of us others w/ CF.

Maximum Life Expectancy - please comment

I personally am 15, and are doing OK. The oldest CFer I personally knew was 41ish when they died. But I've heard of CFers who have grandchildren! If your friend is down about CF, maybe try to get a hold of the CF Roundtable newsletter (if it still exists?) It's a newsletter for adults with CF...

    Sending CF child to daycare?

When I was little, my doctor told my mom to avoid daycare for me as long as possible. I had a full time sitter until I was four, when I started Preschool. Obviously, there is no telling whether it helped or not (though I have to say I cultured pseudomonas when I was 5 and went on IVs then also)...
