Anyone using alternatives to the vest in young kids?

When I was young, it depended on how long the trip was going to be. To some extent, it still does. If we were only going to be gone for a few days, my parents would go back to doing manual CPT. We figured a two or three day trip was too short for the hassle of moving the vest (this was back when...

    Inflammation

It's not a medication, but I drink a lot of green tea. It has anti-inflammatory properties, and can actually increase the effectiveness of some antibiotics. I really don't like the taste, so I add a little bit of peppermint. Here's a website that lists benefits and warnings. Hope this helps...

    Leftover medications.

Our local hospital/medical clinic does a "prescription drop off," usually twice a year, where we can take any and all unused medications. I think I've heard Walgreens may do this, too. I'd suggest searching your city, or a city near you, and "prescription medication drop off." Hope this helps!

    A-Venters Assemble: Age of Ultra-jerks

I think there will always be rude people. Could the man in the theatre complaining had some tolerance? Sure. At the same time, I believe it's my responsibility to not ruin other's paid experiences. If I'm sick and coughing a lot, I don't go to theaters or other places where people pay for...

    Creatinine Help

I've been having a lot of trouble the last few years with IV meds putting a strain on my kidneys. It always seemed that no matter how much I drank, or how many liters of fluid I got, my creatinine would go up. I'd have to hold the antibiotics, and the result was a hospital stay or home IV cycle...

    Best portable o2 concentrator?

Thank you! I'm planning a cruise next May/June to celebrate both my sister and I graduating from college. As it stands right now, when I'm healthy I'm just on nighttime oxygen. Obviously, things could change between now and then, but I'm wondering if anyone has cruised while on oxygen, and how...

Do you mind if I tag my own little question on to this, Momto2?

    Keeping healthy balance

I'm 25, still live with my parents. I really want to move out on my own, but my health isn't at a point where that's a good idea. Instead, I sometimes take advantage of my parents being around. My "lazy days" usually still involve treatments, but my mom or dad pull everything together and wash...

request for information on invasive aspergillosis in cf patients

Hi Ryan, I grow aspergillosis, although I've never heard it called invasive. I used to be on itraconazole, but now take voriconazole for it. This has kept it controlled for the most part, although I'm not sure if I have invasive aspergillosis. I do know I actually have an allergy to the fungus...

What do you take with you when admitted!

I pack a bag of comfy clothes. I bring my laptop, kindle, iPad, and phone. Being in the hospital turns me into a tech junkie, haha. I also bring my pillows, my toothbrush, shampoo/conditioner, brushes, and hairdryer. I'm taking online classes, so I bring anything I might need for those. On my...

I thought you were a smoker

I recently pulled up to a Walgreens, and there was a man pacing outside the doors. I had a coughing fit as I got out of my car, and he ran over to me, looking excited. He goes, "you sound like a smoker! Got a light?!" I was horrified and quickly shut him down by saying "my lungs are damaged...

    Looking for Help/Clarification on CF

I really don't have much to add, except to say that if she does have CF, the care at Children's Hospital Colorado is spectacular, in my opinion. I was treated there from the time I was 8 weeks old until I was almost 21. The team there was always fantastic to me. I'm sending all my positive...

Getting Port next week: words of wisdom

I got a port November of 2013. It's actually a double port, so I have two access points instead of one. My only complaint is that, as a female, coving up an accessed port is more difficult that covering up a picc dressing. And really, that's a problem that's pretty low on the serious rating...

crazy sugars and a little frightened

I'm a huge sugar junkie. If it's sweet, I want to eat it. When I'm on steroids, that's a big problem because steroids give me diabetes (steroid-induced diabetes is what my doc calls it). I could never give up sugar 100%, so instead I found out how much a gram of sugar and a gram of carbs will...

crazy sugars and a little frightened

Glucometers are actually relatively cheap. Walgreens carries several brands. You can buy lancets and testing strips over the counter as well. Testing strips are a little more on the expensive side though. I understand that spending money isn't always easy, but if possible, getting concrete...

crazy sugars and a little frightened

Do you have a glucose reader or are you basing high/low sugars on how you feel? It could help to monitor your actual sugar numbers, keep track of carb and sugar consumption at meals with the corresponding glucose readings, and take that data to your team.

    E coli

Like Aboveall, I don't really know much about the E. coli. But I've found that taking a probiotic has helped my reflux as much as the meds designed for acid. I've always thought, for me personally, that with all the meds and especially the antibiotics, my system gets completely out of control...

    CF's Warped Perspective

I don't really have experience with the baby food, but I had to laugh. It really is amazing how CF can change perspective. My sister, who is in college, texted me one day because her class was discussing health insurance. One kid raised his hand and complained about a $1,000 bill for...

I was treated like a freak

This has been standard for me for a while. Maybe I'd feel singled out if I was the only patient that had to go through this, but that's not true. All of this is done to try and control and prevent bacteria from spreading. Hospitals and clinics are basically giant Petri dishes of disgusting...

Explain how my PFTs went from 111% last month to 94% today

I was told years ago that different machines produce different results. Now, this was 10 years ago and things might have changed, but different computers use different algorithms. Different computers might have different settings. Like Aboveallislove said, stick with the values you get at the...
