Parents with CF: do you rent or own your home?

We have owned our home for over 30 yrs now.. I was here way before i knew I had CF.. I love owing my own home but know if it weren't for my husband it would be impossible.. A lot of up-keep , but in my mind totally worth it ..

I agree with what others said about not counting on your salary .. One suggestion i will make is a ranch is great, the less steps the better & also to have the laundry room on the main level , not the basement !!

I hope you find whatever makes you happy .. Take care joni

We thought about saving and waiting, but it seemed like it was never going to be the right time, so we just decided to have a house built. I love it! It's so clean and new and with a great ventilation system and no carpet in my bedroom--all of the little things that make my health more stable.

We did count my income, but my husband works seasonally. We can't afford for me to be without income even renting an apartment. Buying a house changed nothing for us income wise. If I were to get sick, we'd cross that bridge then. If you can afford to live without one of you working, consider yourself blessed.

We own a home but we don't live in it We live in one my parents own, we pay them rent and last year we purchased a condo to use as a rental. We actually make about $200 per month on it over the mortgage, taxes, etc. It worked out better financially for us to stay put - the home is nicer than what we would have purchased and we don't pay a lot in rent since it is my parents. And we did it w/ my DH's income alone. Hopefully our tenants stay put for a long long time
