I just got home from the Detroit FreePress Marathon...I ran the 5k part..I'd been training for the 10k and it seems like during my training I would get short of breath real easy and have to walk to get it back, then continue to run..

So today I got up at 5:30 did my meds and vest and my dad drove me and my mom down to the race..we started right at 7:45am..
Let me tell you I ran the WHOLE thing!! Not even short of breath once..so I figured out that when I am training, I am running too fast and get tired easier. Today I ran at once pace, the whole way. My mom ran with me and she had to walk twice so I ran ahead then ran back to her...she is 56 so I am darn proud of her!

Apparently the our 5K course got messed up and we ran some extra..maybe even a mile extra..so we crossed the line at maybe 43minutes..and that is with the extra mileage we ran. I was pumped..I could have gone faster but I wanted to stay near my mom. The best part was finishing and being able to run into Ford Field (where the Lions play)..also seeing the 5,000 26.2 mile marathon runners start was very awesome to see.
I've decided that I want to do the half marathon next year. Nov 23 is my 10k..I will keep you all posted on that.

Good for you! Way to go! Keep it up!

I had heard that for the actual event you can go farther/better than you did during training. Not that I would know; too out of shape to do what you do. You are incredible!
