I'm pancreatic sufficient but this happens more often in women over 35. Luckily I won't need insulin if dietary changes work but I won't gain any weight and may lose some if my caloric intake is restricted. My weight is approx 150 right now at 27.5 weeks and when not pregnant I need to weigh at least 110. So I have plenty of fat stores to burn if necessary-whew!

I've seen posts about preterm labor and CF - that it is thought to be due to pancreatic issues. Is it that due to the body not being able to sustain adequate weight gain? Do I need to be concerned that since I need a few hundred more calories a day than healthy women my size/activity level, and with caloric intake reduction on a diabetes diet--- that I might go into preterm labor?

Ack. Luckily I will be 28 weeks along on monday so the baby will likely survive outside the womb already.

I'd appreciate any advice or info. I also left a message for my CF doctor since she already told me I MUST gain a half to one pound a week for the rest of the pregnancy even though I am actually slightly overweight right now.</end quote></div>

Sounds like you are in teh same boat I was. I failed 2/4 #'s on the 3 hour test thus I was not considered gestational but we tracked it as if I were to be on the safe side. My doc ordered the test at 10 weeks because we knew I was at higher risk and I dealt with it for my entire pregnancy, in addition both my ssters are type 1 diabetics. I know ALOT about diabetes unfortunately. Please feel free to PM me with any ?'s. I am assuming they are setting you up with a dietician?

The diagnosis does not mean you will not gain any weight. You will have to coutn carbs and balance that with protein and fat to regulate blood sugars. I woudl be happy to tell you alot of my sample meals if you are interested but I will wait to see if you are meeting with your own dietician first and I dont have alot time to type right now.

YOu can still gain weight while being on a gestational diet just from the right sources. In additoin the docs are so hyper careful with CF'ers IMO, and I dont think it is necessary fro someone like you or I (a bit fluffy <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-blush.gif" border="0">) to gain all that weight, fi you are eating as you should then whatever you gain is right amoutn, I understand thec oncern when someone is already underweight. The doctors also did this to me as the 1st few weeks on gestational diet I was sitll limiting fats etc as I was used to and very low carbs (too low I found out after meetin giwth dietician again) and I was loosing weight and they had me so petrified after that appt that I started eating like crazy and gained what they said or more, then later in 3rd tri is when my body naturally started gaining alot so then I had really overdone it. Next tiem I will relax and let my body do the talking and do what feels right.

Having gestational puts you at a bit higher risk for early delivery but only if you let your sugars run wild otherwise not really. WIth diabetes teh placenta gets calcified or 'old' faster so sometimes they will enduce at 38 weeks or so, they will not let you go overdue--I was 1 day overdue but not by their choice. I also was on rest for a while and work restrictions etc as I had a bleed at 19 weeks and then started having regular contractions all the time at 20 weeks. I guess I am telling youthis so you know it doesnt mean you wont carry to term, I was an absolute petrified mess the 1st time around and I also looked each week to see what the chances were she woudl survive if born at this week, what chances were there would be no brain damage etc etc.

take care and dont stress! easier said than done I know
