50th Birthday for a CFer

Today is my 50th birthday. I've dreaded it coming up. Probably because I DO feel old. It's had me depressed for weeks now! lol

But I know that reaching 50 when you have Cystic Fibrosis is something to celebrate and be thankful for. (Not many CFers deal with menopause! My clinic tells me I'm a rarity there in that area.)

I'm not posting this for "Happy Birthday" messages (there a whole different thread for that). I just wanted to encourage all of you. I spoke with someone the other day whose 3 yr old was dx with the same genes I have. I told the mother that we all are different but to remember that the fact I'm turning 50 should give her hope!

Cool post. If I live to 50 I sure hope I'm grateful but it's very normal to have some depression around birthdays I think. Especially if in the weeks before when you reflect you feel depressed. I would reckon it's not bc of turning 50 that makes you feel old it's other things...pain, boredom, anger at lack of accomplishment or something. I hope this coming year is great. Why not write out three goals for the year TODAY. You'll enjoy looking back at them if nothing else.

If I live to 50 it will likely be because of a disease altering drug (bring it on 770!!) or a transplant. And by the grace of God!

Isaac will be 22 years old!! My parents will be 84 (Mom) and 85 (Dad).

You are an inspiration for sure. Keep up the great work taking such good care of yourself. Seeing all you oldies helps us youngin's dream of a bright future.

WOW!

Happy 50th Debbi!!!
50 is a huge milestone in anyone's life, let alone one with CF.

I'm sorry you are depressed about your birthday. I was quite the opposite when I turned 50. I celebrated like no there was no tomorrow. I completely embrace every year I am given by the grace of God. I figure I've been given my years as a gift to cherish and make good use of . . . if nothing else to be the best Grandma I can be. After all, 50 is just a number, it's how you feel and how you live your life that matters.

If you would have told me 29 years ago at my diagnosis that I would be 54, I would have said 'you're nuts.' Now I'm happy to be a 54 year old nut. Lauren, don't count out your 50th just yet. Keep dreaming and setting goals, you'll see it.

Debbi, I hope you have a great day.
Keep looking forward, to a blessed life filled with memories with your family.
