Redman's syndrome caused by antibiotics
Hey there,
Yes that is a definite unpleasant effect from Vanco. I got it once and they too stopped my IVs temporarily until they could figure out what was going on.
There are actually 2 things they can try. One everyone has mentioned is taking benadryl before the dose. That helped me alot.
BUT if you don't want to sleep the day away with benadryl you can ask them if they can slow the infusion time. If it is being infused for an hour at a time ask them to make it infuse over 2 hours.
I found that when I had vanco infused over 1 hour I needed benadryl everytime, but when they slowed my infusion to 2 hours I did NOT need benadryl and had no side effects.
Sometimes the concentration just gets to be too high in our system if it is infused too fast I guess.
Hope you get some relief soon.
Take Care,
Lindsey
